Quynh Luu residents are having to "live with" household waste.
(Baonghean.vn) - Because the centralized landfill is temporarily closed to handle environmental issues, for nearly a month now, the amount of household waste from Quynh Luu residents has been stagnant in large quantities, especially after the recent storms.

After the fire at the district's centralized landfill in Ngoc Son commune on the evening of June 25, 2018, many households in team 2, hamlet 5 (near Ngoc Son landfill area) did not agree to let the landfill continue operating because they believed that the landfill caused environmental pollution.
Therefore, for nearly a month, people in the town and communes in the district have not known where to discharge their domestic waste, so they have had to "gather" it in their yards, gardens and on the streets.

Mr. Ho Van Nam - a resident of Hamlet 4, Quynh Hau Commune said: "Since July 5, when hearing the hamlet's announcement about temporarily stopping the collection of household waste, people have had to collect garbage in their houses to wait for the announcement to move it out onto the street. Previously, the company collected it once a week, but after the hamlet's announcement to temporarily stop collecting, the amount of garbage accumulated has increased, giving off a foul smell, flies; and the storms of the past few days have caused environmental pollution."
For nearly 3 weeks now, not only Mr. Nam's family but also hundreds of households in Quynh Hau commune have been experiencing a backlog of household waste, from house to alley, garbage is seen everywhere.

In Quynh Thach and Quynh Thanh communes, people used to collect garbage at home and then have trucks come to transport it to the landfill. However, because the district's landfill has temporarily stopped operating, the landfill in Quynh Thanh commune has not been able to transport it, causing the amount of garbage to increase.
Not only that, the Thach - Thanh - Luong route through Thuy Loi 1 bridge (Quynh Thanh commune) has also become a place for people to collect garbage for many days.
Garbage is not only piled up in residential areas and on the streets, but also at the foot of the overpass, Cau Giat town is also flooded with garbage, causing environmental pollution and losing the urban beauty.

According to Mr. Ho Ngoc Thai - representative of the waste collection company in Quynh Luu district, from July 1, 2018 until now, the company has temporarily stopped transporting waste to the district's centralized landfill in Ngoc Son commune. During this time, the company also collected waste in some localities and temporarily gathered it at the company's centralized landfill. However, because the landfill does not have enough space to contain it, only a part of it is temporarily resolved, the rest must wait for the district's handling direction.
Discussing this issue, Mr. Dang Ngoc Binh - Vice Chairman of Quynh Luu District People's Committee said: "After the fire broke out at the district's centralized landfill in Ngoc Son commune, the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee and the People's Committee of Quynh Luu district held a meeting to discuss a plan to handle the waste problem in the area, organized a dialogue with nearly 60 households living near the landfill to come up with a suitable solution. At the same time, assigned the waste collection company to urgently clean up, continue to level, spray chemicals to treat odors, insects, and treat leachate at the landfill; coordinate with localities to organize collection, find vacant land far from residential areas as a temporary gathering place.
However, while waiting for the parties to agree on a solution, people in the entire Quynh Luu district are still having to endure the situation of "living with" household waste every day./.
