Regarding the 100,000 yen/person subsidy policy to cope with the pandemic, the government will apply this subsidy to all those registered on the Basic Resident List. This includes long-term foreign residents (whose names are on the resident list in localities nationwide), and those who have been officially registered for 3 months or more will receive the subsidy.

The government provides the money based on the application of the head of the household and the remittance of the family members through the account. The government is working out the details and expediting the procedures so that the remittance can start next month.

Meanwhile, the Japanese Immigration Bureau plans to help foreign technical interns and other workers find jobs in Japan amid the Covid-19 outbreak.

The immigration authority said that manufacturing and tourism businesses that have seen their business situation deteriorate are temporarily not accepting foreign trainees. Foreign workers who have been granted specific skills visas are also being forced to resign. The regulation will officially start on April 20.

In addition, the Department will flexibly expand support for foreign technical interns who have completed their internship programs but cannot return home and foreign students whose recruitment invitations have been canceled.

To support foreigners during the epidemic season, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has set up a telephone consultation center in 14 languages to provide information about the epidemic.

Center staff can provide consultation in simple Japanese, Vietnamese, English, Chinese, Korean, Nepali, Indonesian, Tagalog, Thai, Portuguese, Spanish, French, Cambodian and Burmese.

The center operates from 10am to 5pm on weekdays, connecting callers with medical facilities and other public agencies to receive the necessary support. This is expected to provide maximum support to the 570,000 foreigners currently living in Tokyo during the emergency. The service is free within Japan, the phone number is 0120-296-004./.
