Marketing staff of Nguyen Kim Vinh branch sentenced to 12 years in prison

On September 24, the People's Court of Nghe An province brought the case of "abuse of trust to appropriate property" to trial against defendant Do Tien Tung (born: 1996; residing in Quang Thuan ward, Ba Don town, Quang Binh).

According to the defendant's testimony in court: In November 2017, Do Tien Tung was hired to work under contract at Nguyen Kim Trading Joint Stock Company, Vinh branch, as a technical staff.

By 2018, due to Tung's good performance in his assigned work, the defendant was transferred to the marketing department at the branch. In this department, Tung planned to sell the company's inventory of phones via social networks and found agents and individuals to register to buy. In June and July 2018, Tung earned nearly 5 billion VND for the company and paid in full.

Seeing that selling company goods was easy, Tung immediately had the idea of ​​keeping some of the sales money to play online games, bet on football online, and for personal shopping.

During August 2018, Do Tien Tung repeatedly requested the company to ship goods through the warehouse at the Vinh branch to Tung. Upon receiving the goods, Tung sold them to familiar locations and then kept the money for himself. When the company asked Tung to pay for the goods, Tung realized that he could no longer afford to pay and fled to Thailand. On October 5, 2018, Tung returned to Noi Bai airport to complete procedures to flee to Taiwan and was arrested by the authorities.

As of the day the defendant escaped, the total amount of goods that Tung had appropriated included 625 phones of various types and laptops with a total value of more than 1.7 billion VND. Up to now, the family has only recovered more than 140 million VND.

At the trial, the Deputy Director of the Vinh branch in charge, as a related person, asked for a reduced sentence for Tung because the defendant was young and had just committed a crime for the first time. At the same time, after the incident, employees at the Vinh branch donated to compensate the head office for the loss to help the defendant.

Originally the breadwinner of the family, his father died early. His mother was sick, and he had a younger sister to take care of. Tung should have been the man his family could rely on, but because of his personal desires, he had added to the family's burden. Having the last word, the defendant could only cry and apologize to his family and colleagues, who had trusted and helped him. The defendant also asked the court to give him the most lenient sentence possible so that he could return to work soon to compensate for the damage he had caused.

Based on the aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the panel decided to sentence the defendant Do Tien Tung to 12 years in prison for the crime of “Abuse of trust to appropriate property”. At the same time, he must recover all the money the defendant had appropriated from the company.
