(Baonghean) - Implementing production according to market mechanisms, many production and livestock models have appeared in the province to create commodity products. The following models cannot fully represent the innovations in economic development of local farmers, but they are typical examples worth replicating.

Get rich from garden hills

Mr. Dao Xuan Bay in Giang Son Dong commune, Do Luong district is famous in the region for growing fruit trees. The land in Xuan Thinh hamlet, where he started his career, was originally a land where “dogs eat stones, chickens eat gravel”, but people were really surprised when he built a unique grapefruit garden.

On the hill of nearly 3 hectares, Mr. Bay planted 680 grapefruit trees, but only nearly 390 trees yielded harvest. In the past three years, the family has had a big profit. In 2015, they earned nearly 600 million VND. In 2016, they expect to earn about 800 million VND. It turns out that each grapefruit tree entering the business period yields approximately 2 million VND each year, equivalent to the income of one sao of rice field.

Mr. Bay said that the garden used to grow oranges, lychees and sapodillas, but they had to be destroyed because those trees were ineffective, the investment was large but the harvest was not worth much. In 2006, the family switched to pilot planting Dien grapefruit. They were very happy that after more than 2 years, the fruit yielded excellent quality, and ripened out of season during Tet, so they could sell for a good price and were very easy to consume.

Not only that, Dien grapefruit is very easy to grow, the technique is not complicated, and there are few pests and diseases. To facilitate intensive investment and create sustainable development for the grapefruit garden, Mr. Bay combined digging 3 ponds to raise fish at the foot of the hill, raising ducks, and collecting water to irrigate grapefruit against drought. At the same time, the family also raises buffaloes and cows for breeding, both for income and to create a source of organic fertilizer for grapefruit. Currently, the family has over 100 ducks that lay super eggs, a herd of 6 buffaloes and cows...

Growing grapefruit combined with raising livestock has helped Mr. Dao Xuan Bay become a billionaire in the hilly region, with an income of over 1 billion VND in 2016. His production model is encouraged to be replicated by Do Luong district.

Raising dairy cows, earning billions

After many years of experimenting with crops and livestock, Mr. Tran Van Huu in Dong Hoa hamlet, Nghia Hoa commune, Thai Hoa town chose dairy cows to get rich. This profession develops sustainably when there are businesses, farm associations, the town People's Committee, and banks working together and bringing super profits.

In September 2015, he entered the profession, which was also the time when Thai Hoa town encouraged the development of dairy cows according to the chain link. Mr. Huu spent 500 million VND to buy 5 breeding cows, build barns, and buy milking machines. The Dutch dairy cows were brought in to raise, reproduce well, and have very high productivity, with an average daily output of 25-35 kg of milk/cow, so the family quickly recovered their capital.

Currently, his family has 8 dairy cows, 5 of which are milking for a yield of 150 kg/day, after deducting expenses, each day has a net profit of 1 million VND. Not only does it bring in income from milk, but the family also has income from calves. Due to the good quality of the cows, combined with compliance with the care process and timely mating, the family's dairy cows reproduce regularly, he keeps the female calves to develop the herd, and raises the male calves to sell for meat.

Thus, in addition to providing milk products, the dairy cow herd also provides a source of breeding calves worth over 200 million VND. In 2016, the family earned nearly 600 million VND from dairy farming, nearly doubling the family's dairy herd.

Along with Mr. Huu, in Thai Hoa town, there is also Mr. Ho Sy Dieu's farm, hamlet 4, Nghia Tien commune, raising 40 dairy cows, of which 26 are milked, with an annual revenue of over 2.2 billion VND; Or Ms. Nguyen Thi Loc's farm, Dong Thanh hamlet, Dong Hieu commune; Mr. Tran Duy Duc's farm, Dong Hung hamlet, Nghia My commune, has a herd of 20-26 dairy cows/household, with an annual revenue of approximately 2 billion VND/household.

Currently, Thai Hoa town has 20 dairy farms with a total herd of 256 cows. In 2016, the output reached 1,800 tons, the selling price was 13,000 - 14,000 VND/kg, the revenue from milk reached nearly 25 billion VND. This is a model of agricultural commodity production according to the chain with linkages, helping farmers to become rich sustainably.

"Making money" from growing flowers

In Thai Hoa town, flower growing is also helping many households "make money". The whole town has 30 households growing flowers with an area of 5 hectares. Depending on the type of flower, the average income per hectare is approximately 700 million VND.

On the eve of the Dinh Dau New Year, we had the opportunity to visit the flower growing facility of Mr. Nguyen Van Duc, Dong Hoa hamlet, Nghia Hoa commune. With 15 years of experience in the profession, on an area of 1 hectare, Mr. Duc grows flowers, with an average annual revenue of nearly 700 million VND, of which the net profit is over 50%. Mr. Duc said that thanks to being trained to understand the techniques and biological characteristics of each flower species, he was able to prevent pests and diseases, regulate the flowers to bloom in time for the New Year holiday...

He also researched the consumer market to put into production and business suitable flower species, quick capital turnover, high profit. The flower growing area is invested in drip irrigation and misting systems to prevent drought for flowers in the hot season and implements high intensive technology, adjusting the flowers to bloom at the right time. Therefore, the quality of flowers is quite good, produced and sold immediately. On average, each year, nearly 200,000 flowers of all kinds are supplied to the market.

Preparing for the Dinh Dau Tet 2017, since the beginning of November 2016, he has planted 10,000 lilies (Netherlands), 60,000 yellow chrysanthemums, 2,000 sunflowers and hundreds of peach trees. Estimated revenue during Tet is over 400 million VND, after deducting expenses, the profit is about 200 million VND. For the whole year, Mr. Duc's model brings in a net profit of over 500 million VND. Flower growing, besides "beautifying life", also brings in a stable income for many households.
