Which wards in Vinh city lost their names after the merger?
After expansion, Vinh City will have 166.25 square kilometers of natural area, a population of more than 568,700 people with a scale of 33 administrative units of wards and communes. In addition, some wards will lose their names due to the merger.
The plan to expand the administrative boundaries and urban space of Vinh city is to merge the entire natural area and existing population size of Cua Lo town; adjust the entire natural area and existing population size of 4 communes: Nghi Xuan, Phuc Tho, Nghi Thai, Nghi Phong of Nghi Loc district to Vinh city for management.

After expanding Vinh City will have 166.25km2 natural area, population of more than 568,700 people with a scale of 33 administrative units of wards and communes.
According to the project, Vinh city will establish Vinh Tan ward on the basis of merging the entire Hong Son ward with a natural area of 0.50km2.2, the population is 8,401 people and Vinh Tan ward has a natural area of 5.04km2, population size is 19,570 people.

According to Vinh Tan ward's report, the locality organized to collect opinions from 11,612/11,612 voters in the area, reaching a rate of 100%, of which, the number of voters agreeing with the merger plan was 11,555 voters, reaching a rate of 99.08%. Vinh Tan ward residents agreed and agreed that the ward name would remain Vinh Tan ward.
For Hong Son ward, the total number of voters polled was 3,770/3,774, reaching 99.89%. Of which, the number of voters agreeing with the merger plan was 3,495 voters, reaching 92.61%.

Regarding the renaming of Hong Son ward to Vinh Tan ward, there were 221 opinions from voters of Hong Son ward on this issue. Specifically, there were 7 opinions suggesting to combine the names of the 2 wards; 29 opinions to use the name of Hong Tan ward; 15 opinions to use the name of Hong Vinh ward; 11 opinions to use the name of Vinh Hong ward; 1 opinion to use the name of Son Tan ward; 36 opinions to use the name of Tan Son ward; 120 voters to use the name of Hong Son ward and 2 opinions to use the name of Tan Hong ward.
After receiving opinions, Hong Son Ward organized meetings, mobilized and propagated to the people about this issue. Mr. Tu Trong Hai - Chairman of Hong Son Ward People's Committee said: Grasping from reality, the area and population of Vinh Tan Ward are many times larger than Hong Son Ward. Therefore, keeping the name Vinh Tan Ward will create more favorable conditions for people in converting and completing related documents and procedures such as ID cards, land certificates, etc. in the future.

“We also encourage local people to agree for the common good so that the process of expanding and merging wards and cities can take place quickly and smoothly. After propaganda, all local people agreed to change the name to Vinh Tan ward according to the project,” Mr. Tu Trong Hai emphasized.
Besides merging Vinh Tan and Hong Son wards, Vinh city will also establish a new Quang Trung ward on the basis of merging all 3 wards, including: Quang Trung ward with a natural area of 0.58km2, population size is 10,016 people; Doi Cung ward has a natural area of 0.67km2, the population is 10,198 people and Le Mao ward has a natural area of 0.87km2, population size is 13,658 people.
According to reports from wards and communes, the work of collecting voters' opinions was carried out quickly. In Quang Trung ward, the number of voters agreeing with the merger plan was 5,404 voters, reaching a rate of 99.4%. In Le Mao ward, the number of voters agreeing with the merger plan was 5,338 voters, reaching a rate of 97.85%. In Doi Cung ward, the number of voters agreeing with the merger plan was 5,615 voters, reaching a rate of 98.89%.

Mr. Tran Xuan Hai - Vice Chairman of Le Mao Ward People's Committee said: Local people all agree with the establishment of a new ward named Quang Trung Ward. The remaining opinions mainly revolve around creating favorable conditions for people to change relevant information and documents after the merger process.
Thus, according to the plan, 3 ward names will be lost after the merger in Vinh City, including Hong Son, Le Mao and Doi Cung. 2 ward names will be retained to form new wards, Quang Trung and Vinh Tan.
In addition to the 5 merged wards mentioned above, 4 communes of Vinh City will be established into wards including: Hung Dong commune, Hung Loc commune, Nghi Phu commune and Nghi Duc commune.

Mr. Nguyen Dang Thanh - Deputy Head of Vinh City's Department of Internal Affairs said: According to the project, after the expansion and merger, Vinh City will have new wards and communes merged from Cua Lo Town and Nghi Loc District, including 7 wards: Nghi Hai, Nghi Hoa, Nghi Huong, Nghi Tan, Nghi Thu, Nghi Thuy, Thu Thuy and 4 communes: Nghi Xuan, Phuc Tho, Nghi Thai, Nghi Phong. The names of these localities will remain the same when merged into Vinh City.
Ms. Tran Thi Cam Tu - Vice Chairman of Vinh City People's Committee said: "Currently, the process of merging wards in Vinh City has completed all procedures, waiting for the Resolution of the National Assembly Standing Committee to take effect. After the merger, the city is responsible, based on its functions and authority, to increase support and handle procedures for people to ensure compliance with regulations".
