Nghe An farmers invest 1.7 billion VND to bring seawater into shrimp farming
(Baonghean.vn)- In the context of increasingly polluted water sources, Mr. Hoang Xuan Tin in Quynh Bang commune (Quynh Luu) boldly invested 1.7 billion VND to install a pipeline to bring seawater directly to shrimp ponds.
In 2011, realizing that the water source for shrimp farming was increasingly polluted due to the increasing discharge of waste from factories and industrial zones into the environment; meanwhile, Loc Thuy Cooperative was also considered a difficult shrimp farming area due to the large amount of fresh water and because it was located between the two ports of Lach Quen and Lach Con, the water was heavily polluted. Mr. Hoang Xuan Tin in Quynh Bang commune (Quynh Luu) came up with a way to install a pipeline to take salt water from the sea and lead it directly into his family's pond.

After studying the actual terrain, Mr. Tin hired workers to dig and install about 4,300 m of 200mm diameter plastic pipes from the sea to the pond. After 20 days of construction, the system to bring seawater to the pond was completed with a total cost of 1.7 billion VND.

When using salt water from the sea, shrimp farming becomes more convenient. Because of the proactive water source, especially clean water source, most shrimp farming seasons are successful. "Having a source of sea water makes shrimp farming very proactive. Because of the clean water source, shrimp farming is rarely affected by diseases, productivity and output are higher than before" - Mr. Tin shared.
After pumping water from the sea into the pond, he continued to take fresh water from the Do Luong canal system and mixed it with the ratio: 60% sea water, 40% fresh water. Then he used chlorine to treat the water and then pumped the water into each pond to release shrimp larvae.

With a farming process that applies science and technology and boldly invests in pipelines to bring water from the sea to the pond, over the past 5 years, Mr. Tin's family has had consecutive successes in shrimp farming. With 12 ponds divided into 2-3 times/year, each pond has an average yield of 4-5 tons.
Recently, he has just finished harvesting 3 shrimp ponds of the first crop with a yield of 4.5 tons/pond; after deducting expenses, he earned a profit of 700 million VND. Moving to the second crop, Mr. Tin plans to release shrimp in 8 ponds.

Currently, most shrimp farmers in Quynh Bang commune take water from the Mai Giang River. Due to polluted water sources, if not carefully treated when put into the pond, diseases in shrimp can easily occur. With the investment in a pipeline to bring seawater to the pond of Mr. Hoang Xuan Tin, shrimp farming will be easier and diseases will be minimized.
