Quy Hop farmers grow melons using Japanese technology for high profits
(Baonghean.vn) - Although it has just been put into trial cultivation, the intensive cultivation model of melons in Tam Hop commune, Quy Hop district has brought high economic efficiency; produced outstanding quality yield, and is favored by consumers.

On an area of 1,000 m2 Growing vegetables and fruits is ineffective, with support from the local government, Ms. Vo Thi Ngoc in Tam My hamlet, Tam Hop commune has boldly implemented a model of growing 2,200 melons in net houses and greenhouses using Japanese technology with a total investment of over 200 million VND.
Melons have been planted since March 2018 and have yielded the first harvest with high yield (from 45 - 60 tons/ha). The fruit weighs an average of 1.5 - 2.5 kg, has eye-catching colors, is round, and has a bright orange flesh, sweet and fragrant.

Ms. Ngoc excitedly said: "Previously, my family grew many types of vegetables, but the efficiency was low and the income was low, so with the support of the locality, my family switched to growing melons in greenhouses and net houses.
Families are instructed and transferred high-tech techniques for growing and caring for melons, calculating the appropriate amount of fertilizer, manual pollination, minimizing pests and diseases, and not using pesticides; in order to create quality and safe agricultural products.
Although this is only the first trial crop of growing melons on an area of 1,000 m2,After 3 months, the melon garden yields about 3 tons and the wholesale price at the garden is from 40 - 50 thousand VND/kg; after deducting expenses, the family makes a profit of about 80 million VND.

Discussing the effectiveness of the first experimental melon growing model in Tam Hop commune, Quy Hop district, Mr. Vi Thanh Vinh - Deputy Head of the District Economic Infrastructure Department said: "From the initial results of the melon growing model in greenhouses and greenhouses of Ms. Ngoc's family, it is estimated that the melon production model brings income to people from 300 - 350 million VND/ha; opening up a direction for sustainable livelihood conversion for farmers in Tam Hop area. Learning from the stages of seed selection, planting, care and pest control, local people will improve efficiency in the upcoming summer-autumn crop, and at the same time replicate this effective production model"./.
