Building press agencies and cultural journalists is an urgent requirement.

Speaking at the launch of the emulation movement, Comrade Nguyen Duc Loi, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, stated that journalism is a special component of culture. Journalistic works are the most popular cultural and spiritual products in modern society. Journalism is also a mirror reflecting community culture, actively promoting and contributing to the development of other forms of culture.

Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department spoke at the ceremony.

In recent years, along with the country's innovation and development, the Vietnamese revolutionary press has always deserved to be the vanguard force on the ideological and cultural front, contributing to preserving and promoting good cultural values and traditions, raising people's awareness, and building the spiritual foundation of society.

Major changes in the socio-economic environment create the driving force and favorable conditions for the press to develop in a more open and professional direction. However, along with the strong rise, the Vietnamese revolutionary press is also facing challenges, consequences, and negative aspects of development. Notably, the emergence of social networks and new media has caused the market share of many press agencies to decline; a part of the press has deviated from its principles and purposes, is indifferent to its target audience, seeks trivial tastes, produces content mainly to increase the number of visits, compromises honesty and objectivity to achieve economic goals...

In that context, raising cultural awareness, creating cultural space in journalism activities, and building cultural press agencies and journalists are urgent requirements.

Comrade Nguyen Duc Loi stated that, as a component of culture, and at the same time as one of the main means of disseminating cultural forms to the whole society, each press agency needs to be a cultural agency, each journalist needs to always be aware of improving their own culture, promoting cultural elements in creating works. In addition, the press needs to proactively and actively promote and improve culture in its own profession and field.

At the ceremony, the Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association announced the basic criteria of 12 points on building a cultural press agency (6 points) and the culture of Vietnamese journalists (6 points), and at the same time requested press agencies, all levels of the Vietnam Journalists Association and journalists nationwide to actively respond, proactively sign emulation agreements, and well implement the proposed criteria.

Raising awareness and responsibility about the position and importance of culture

Representatives of press agencies and all levels of the Journalists Association spoke in response to the emulation movement. Comrade Pham Manh Hung, Deputy General Director of the Voice of Vietnam, said that the press can only do a good job in cultural work if the press agency is truly a cultural agency with cultured journalists. Therefore, launching an emulation movement to build a cultural environment in press agencies is really necessary and has great significance in the current context.

Comrade Le Quoc Minh, member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper spoke at the ceremony.

The movement was launched to help press agencies raise awareness and responsibility for the position and importance of culture for the country's development as well as the development of each press agency, the value of press products, and the honor and prestige of journalists in society.

With the specific, clear and practical criteria set out, it will contribute to helping press agencies fulfill their role and mission of revolutionary journalism, which is to preserve, build and develop advanced Vietnamese culture with strong national identity; promote cultural values and the strength of the Vietnamese people; strongly arouse the spirit of patriotism, national self-reliance and the aspiration to develop a prosperous and happy country.

He believes that following this criterion will help create honest and objective press products that can spread good values of ethics and humanity, contributing to preventing and repelling bad, toxic, and anti-cultural information.

The emulation movement needs to be spread, deeply and substantially absorbed into every press agency and every journalist.

In his speech, Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department, emphasized that the launching ceremony of the emulation movement is a very meaningful activity for press agencies and journalists to realize the goal of building a professional, humane and modern press and media according to the Documents of the 13th National Party Congress and implementing the Conclusion of the direction of Comrade General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the National Cultural Conference taking place at the end of 2021.

This is also an important event, opening a series of activities towards the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025).

On the occasion of the 97th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia sent sincere gratitude to veteran journalists and best wishes to journalists across the country.

Affirming that the good values of Vietnamese culture are the source of strength that helps the nation overcome all difficulties and challenges, he suggested that each journalist should clearly identify his or her responsibility in preserving, conserving and promoting the national cultural identity; lighting the fire of knowledge and compassion in the whole society. Each press agency must be a leading example in building office culture and agency culture.

In that spirit, comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia set out a number of key tasks that press management agencies, governing bodies, press agencies and the team of journalists in the country need to focus on implementing. First of all, continue to thoroughly grasp and raise awareness of Party committees, Party organizations and Party members in press agencies about the position, role and responsibility of Vietnam's revolutionary press in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland; about the position and role of culture in the cause of building and developing the country.

At the same time, build, perfect and implement the working process well, ensuring the highest accuracy, reliability and humanity in each news bulletin and each article. Continue to promote cultural information and propaganda work, orienting the promotion of cultural values in life; actively build press products rich in cultural qualities and have the ability to spread so that each press product brought to the public ensures aesthetic and educational factors, becoming a model in communication and cultural behavior in the community.

In addition, building a cultural press agency environment and cultural journalists in the new era is associated with development and integration; it is necessary to focus on standard values, consistent with the family value system, social value system, national and ethnic value system; skillfully combining traditional values with modern values so that culture is truly the spiritual foundation and driving force for development...

At the same time, continue to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of state leadership and management of the press; focus on caring for and building culture in press agencies and journalists, focusing on building a team of reporters and editors with good moral qualities, a pure lifestyle, a spirit of dedication, wholeheartedly serving the Fatherland and the people, and being closely attached to the people; take measures to prevent and repel the degradation of political ideology, ethics, and lifestyle among a number of cadres, reporters, civil servants, and journalists.

Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia requested the Vietnam Journalists Association to guide, monitor, and urge the implementation of the movement at all levels of the Association and in each press agency so that the emulation movement can spread, permeate deeply, and be substantial in each press agency and each journalist.

In his response speech, comrade Le Quoc Minh, member of the Party Central Committee and Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, thanked the sentiments and good wishes of the Party and State leaders sent to journalists nationwide on the occasion of the 97th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day.
