Pregnant women are at greater risk of contracting coronavirus, said Professor Viktor Zuev, a virologist and chief scientist at the Gamaley Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, on Russia 1 TV channel.

“Not the elderly and children, because it will cure these subjects. Pregnant women are very difficult to cure,” he emphasized.
Virologists generally recommend protecting pregnant women from infectious diseases.

"We know how dangerous the flu is for pregnant women, or rather for the child that is later born. It is not uncommon for a slow-growing flu to lead to serious complications."

Earlier, Professor Dr. Elena Degtyareva of the Department of Pediatrics of RUDN University, Honored Doctor of Russia, said that coronavirus can be transmitted from pregnant women to their children, however, it is very rare for the disease in newborns to have serious complications.

The medical doctor further clarified that severe illness in infants could occur if the coronavirus combines with the disease “respiratory syncytial virus infection” that is quite familiar to doctors, which causes severe bronchitis with respiratory failure.
