Reorganizing administrative units: The whole country reduced 560 communes and 6 districts.
(Baonghean.vn) - According to information from the Ministry of Home Affairs, up to now, 42/45 provinces and cities have sent detailed project documents on administrative unit arrangement to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
According to Resolution 653 of the National Assembly Standing Committee, the whole country has 19 district-level administrative units that need to be rearranged. However, the provinces and cities proposed to rearrange only 9 district-level administrative units, the remaining 10 districts have not been rearranged this time (4 special districts such as Co To, Bach Long Vi, Con Co, Tan Phu Dong have special geographical locations so they cannot be rearranged with adjacent districts). On the other hand, Quang Ninh province proposed to rearrange the encouraged district Hoang Bo with Ha Long City.
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, through the reorganization, the country has reduced 6 districts, of which Cao Bang province reduced 3 districts, Quang Ngai reduced 1 district, Hoa Binh reduced 1 district, Quang Ninh reduced 1 district. Yen Bai and Dien Bien provinces also adjusted district-level administrative units but did not reduce the number of districts.

As expected, after completing the arrangement, Nghe An will have 460 communes left, a reduction of 20 communes; the whole province has 5,884 hamlets, villages, and blocks, of which 3,708 units are subject to merger; after the merger, 1,991 units will be reduced, leaving 3,983 hamlets, villages, and blocks.
The Ministry of Home Affairs assessed that localities have focused on merging the status quo of district and commune-level administrative units to both achieve the goal of reducing the number of administrative units and increasing the natural area and population of the newly formed administrative units after the rearrangement.The Ministry of Home Affairs said that the arrangement and settlement of redundant civil servants is specified in each locality's project. From streamlining the payroll, dismissal, waiting for retirement, to reassignment to other localities, all options are discussed and discussed thoroughly before being submitted to the Government for submission to the National Assembly Standing Committee.
Localities need to base on the approved project to resolve and arrange redundant cadres and civil servants after the arrangement.
