After days of heavy rain, Quynh beach is flooded with trash
(Baonghean.vn) - After heavy rains, garbage from upstream flowed down the river, causing a kilometer-long stretch of coastline in Quynh Long commune, Quynh Luu district to be flooded with garbage.
Present at the sea dike of Quynh Long commune on the morning of September 6, I witnessed the scene of garbage including large tree trunks, firewood, plastic bags, plastic waste and animal carcasses piled up in a pile stretching along the coast for kilometers, with a width from the foot of the dike to the shore of about 50m.

Here, garbage is concentrated and drifting on the shore, making it difficult for people living and fishing in Quynh Long coastal area.
According to an old man living along the Quynh Long sea dike, this is the first time he has discovered such a large amount of garbage drifting ashore since he was born.
It is known that large amounts of waste have been dumped into the sea of Quynh Long and Quynh Thuan communes of Quynh Luu district since the morning of September 5.

Mr. Tran Van Nguyen - Chairman of Quynh Long Commune People's Committee said: "Never before has there been such a situation of firewood, tree branches, and household waste from upstream coming to this coastal area. It is probably because this area has a low-lying sea, so the waves have pushed these giant piles of garbage onto the sandbank at the foot of the coastal dike."

The amount of garbage that is concentrated along the coast of the commune is mainly firewood, including large tree trunks, so the local government is currently allowing people to collect the wood to use as fuel. The commune's plan is to wait for sunny weather and then mobilize all available human resources to collect the garbage, bring it to the shore to dry, and then find a suitable location to soak it in fuel oil to protect the environment as well as ensure the daily life and production of the people, Mr. Nguyen added.
