Student volunteers teach swimming to children in mountainous commune of Thanh Chuong
(Baonghean.vn) - Implementing the 2019 Summer Volunteer Campaign, volunteer student teams from universities in Vinh City and Hanoi have carried out many meaningful and practical activities in Thanh Chuong (Nghe An).
Thanh Chuong is a mountainous district bordering Laos. The economic conditions and lives of people in many communes, especially remote communes in border areas, are still difficult.
This summer, 4 volunteer student teams from universities registered to participate in volunteer activities in the locality. The two teams that returned to deploy their tasks the earliest were the Student Volunteer Team of the Faculty of Law - Vinh University and the Association of Nghe Tinh Compatriots of the University of Transport Technology - Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology.

The SVTN team of the Faculty of Law, Vinh University, consisting of 18 students, participated in volunteer activities in Thanh Thuy commune. The program lasted for 20 days, from June 26 to July 16.
In recent days, the SVTN team has coordinated with the local commune Youth Union to organize training on Team work; organize summer activities with children; clean houses and gardens for families with preferential policies, village roads, youth roads, and medicinal herb gardens at the health station; coordinate with the Youth Shock Team and the Commune Military Committee to participate in forest fire prevention and control.

The SVTN team also organized propaganda on drowning prevention for children, practiced swimming lessons, and first aid for drowning at the Spillway Dam. This is an important content, receiving enthusiastic response from local people. At the same time, in Thanh Huong commune, the SVTN team of Nghe Tinh Fellow Countrymen Association, University of Transport Technology and Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology has 21 students from Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces participating. In recent days, the team has also coordinated with the local commune Youth Union to organize the distribution of rural roads with a total length of more than 7 km, remove black spots of waste in the area; repair a village cultural house, build a sports playground for children, clean up Hoa Quan Palace Relics...

In particular, the SVTN team organized fun activities for children, integrated communication and propaganda on drowning prevention; organized labor to help the family of Mr. Dinh Anh Tuan - a poor household in hamlet 7, harvest more than 15 tons of acacia in the hot sun. In order to share and encourage families in difficult circumstances, the team also visited and gave 12 gifts worth 3 million VND to poor students and households in the area.
