Was the MS804 plane crash caused by a bomb?

(Baonghean.vn) - A senior Egyptian forensic official said on May 24 that body parts found from the crash of EgyptAir flight MS804 showed that there was an explosion on the plane.

The unnamed official is part of the Egyptian investigation team and personally examined the remains at the Cairo morgue.

He said the total of 80 body parts brought to Cairo at this time was very little.

“The logical explanation is an explosion,” the official added. “But I can’t say what caused the explosion yet.”

Egyptian authorities believe terrorism is a more likely cause of the crash than equipment failure, and some aviation experts say a report by the Greek defense minister points to a bomb or gunfire in the cockpit. However, no evidence has been presented yet.

The al-Watan daily newspaper on May 24 quoted another unnamed forensic official as saying that the body parts found were no bigger than a hand.

The French air accident investigation agency has not yet commented on the body parts found or pointed out any clues that the cause of the accident was a bomb explosion.

Relatives of the victims of the accident have gone to the Cairo Department of Forensic Medicine to conduct DNA verification to confirm the identities of the body parts.

An EgyptAir Airbus 320 crashed on May 19 in the Mediterranean en route from Paris to Cairo, killing all 66 people on board.

Egypt has sent a submarine to search for the black box and a French ship has also joined in locating the crashed plane and its data recorder. Currently, Britain, Cyprus, Greece and the United States have sent ships and aircraft to assist in the search.
