Thanh Chuong: Earning 30 billion from spring tea crop
(Baonghean.vn) - Thanks to favorable weather, Thanh Chuong tea was harvested nearly a month earlier this year. Currently, tea farmers are entering the harvest season with joy of a good harvest and good prices.
For the past 10 days, Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh in Team 1 of Ngoc Lam Tea Enterprise in Thanh Chuong District has been very busy. Her family has started harvesting 4 hectares of tea. In addition to directing the harvesting of tea at home, she has also been rushing to other places to buy. Ms. Minh said that this year, the tea was harvested early, the yield was quite good, and the price was high. At this time, the average price is 3,700 VND/kg. If the tea is good, it can reach 4,000 VND/kg, nearly 1,000 VND higher than last year.

Thanks to the good harvest, good price and rapid development of tea, tea growers in Hanh Lam, Ngoc Lam, Thanh Mai tea factories and communes with a lot of tea such as Thanh Duc, Hanh Lam, Thanh Huong, Thanh Thinh, Thanh Tung, Thanh Mai have all started picking tea. Instead of picking by hand with low productivity, most tea growers now pick tea by machine. The tea picked by machine will be imported to the factory to make CTC black tea for export.

Along with picking tea by machine, some people still pick tea by hand. This amount of tea will be imported to mini processing factories or processed manually to produce tea products for domestic consumption. According to Mr. Nguyen Van Tuong - owner of a tea production facility in village 1B, Thanh Thinh commune, hand-picked tea can be purchased for 10,000 VND/kg, if 1 bud 2 leaves can be purchased for 15,000 VND/kg. The amount of tea is also consumed quickly, so most mini tea factories in the area have also entered production.
Mr. Nguyen Van Ky - Deputy Director of Ngoc Lam Tea Enterprise shared: Compared to previous years, this year the factory started production about 20 days earlier. Thanks to the large amount of tea, the price and employment of workers are stable, the average income of production workers in the first months of this year can reach 5-6 million VND/person/month.

| Thanh Chuong district currently has about 4,500 hectares of tea, accounting for about 70% of the province's tea area and output. In the spring tea crop at the beginning of the year, it is estimated to earn about 8,000 tons, reaching nearly 30 billion VND. Determining that tea is a key economic crop related to the lives of about 30,000 people, especially people in resettlement communes, for many years now, the district has organized and directed the planting of about 250-350 hectares of tea each year. |
“Along with the implementation of new tea planting as planned, the fact that this year’s spring tea crop has a good price is directly encouraging people in the communes to continue investing in tea trees,” said Mr. Le Dinh Thanh - Vice Chairman of Thanh Chuong District People’s Committee.
