(Baonghean.vn) - The native chicken breed is small in weight but has high resistance, is easy to raise, and has delicious meat. Many young people in the border commune of Nam Giai, Que Phong district have invested in raising this breed of chicken to supply the market, bringing high economic efficiency.

Arriving at Puc village, Nam Giai border commune, we visited the camp.chicken farmingindigenous chickens under the cinnamon forest of Quang Van Trung's family. Hundreds of chickens freely search for food under the cinnamon trees planted on the hillside.

Mr. Quang Van Trung excitedly said that he had previously invested in raising hybrid chickens brought from the lowlands but all failed because they were not suitable for the harsh climate here. After those failures, in 2019, he decided to switch to raising native chickens. To have a source of breeding stock, he went to each family in the villages to buy native chickens to raise and breed. Native chickens are small in weight, the number of eggs laid by hens is low each year, only 90 - 100 eggs/year. However, the advantage is that native chickens have high resistance, few diseases and can withstand the climate here, so the chicken flock develops stably.

When the flock of chickens multiplied to hundreds of laying hens, Mr. Trung invested in buying an incubator to produce breeding hens. In addition to serving his family's breeding, he also supplied them to many families in the commune. As breeding is growing, especially among young people with the will to improve their lives, he came up with the idea of establishing a breeding cooperative to proactively supply a large amount of commercial chickens to the market. In 2022, Thanh Tam Agricultural and Service Cooperative was established with 18 members; with the number of laying hens always maintained at over 500, nearly 20,000 breeding hens each year.

The cooperative members built a system of 2-3 compartments of barns, aiming to raise them in batches. Therefore, at any time of the year, the cooperative has a source of broiler chickens to supply the market. This type of native chicken, raised after 5-6 months, is sold, the chicken weighs only 1.2-1.5kg/chicken, because it is raised in the form of semi-free range, the main food is agricultural products made by the people: corn, rice, cassava... so the quality is guaranteed, customers like it. Therefore, even though the price of broiler chicken is slightly 145,000 VND/kg, it is still "in demand".

“Currently, the market is mainly only in Kim Son town, not yet expanded to districts and cities. Therefore, in the future, I plan to expandmarketby investing in an on-site slaughterhouse, with the aim of providing customers with ready-made chicken. Accordingly, the ready-made chicken products are vacuum-packed for easy transportation. This is also a solution to create jobs, increase income for members, and make it more convenient for customers, especially restaurants and customers from the lowlands," said Mr. Quang Van Trung.
