On May 12, the Ministry of Public Security is detaining Liu Ming Yang (34 years old), Jhu Minh Jyun (32 years old), To Gia My (33 years old, all Chinese nationals) and Nguyen Thi Thu Van (36 years old) to investigate a 500 kg ketamine drug trafficking ring that was recently busted in Vinh Loc A commune, Binh Chanh district, Ho Chi Minh City.
Using cars to transport drugs across countries
The leader of the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department (C04, Ministry of Public Security) said that the raid was coordinated by C04 with the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department, Special Police Battalion No. 2, Ho Chi Minh City Police, Binh Duong Provincial Police, and police from Tan Phu, Binh Tan, and Binh Chanh districts.

At around 4pm on May 11, hundreds of scouts from various forces simultaneously deployed, searched many locations, and arrested Liu Ming Yang and three accomplices. Police seized 500kg of ketamine, four packaging machines, and one Innova car.
According to the police, the drug ring was led by Liu Ming Yang. Specifically, Yang directed Jhu Minh Jyun to enter Vietnam on March 14, receive 4 packaging presses from China and transport them to a warehouse on Go Xoai Street, Binh Hung Hoa A Ward, Binh Tan District to hide the drugs.
Due to the recent large drug busts, Liu Ming Yang was afraid of being exposed so he moved his warehouse to Hamlet 4, Vinh Loc A Commune, Binh Chanh District. When Jhu Minh Jyun transported drugs from abroad to this warehouse in an Innova car, he was checked and arrested by the police.

The roles of two women in the ring were also clarified by the police. Accordingly, Nguyen Thi Thu Van is Liu Ming Yang's lover. This woman is a powerful "right-hand woman", supporting Yang in renting the warehouse and acting as an interpreter. As for To Gia My, she was also hired to translate and help Jhu Minh Jyun at the new warehouse where 500 kg of ketamine was hidden.
More expensive than gold
According to the leader of the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department, the value of this shipment is very large. Ketamine is a very rare drug, the most expensive on the market today. Each kilogram of ketamine costs the equivalent of1 billion VND.
To be able to sell this type of drug, the criminals operated very sophisticatedly. Specifically, Yang directed his subordinates to buy 4 packaging machines in China and then disassemble all the parts.
"After stuffing the four presses tightly, they welded them shut again as usual to fool the authorities during inspection," added the leader of Department C04.

Mr. Huynh Nam, Head of the Drug Control Team, Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department, said that this network was discovered in September 2018. After verifying that this was a large network, the Drug Control Team coordinated with other forces to monitor and set up a special project to destroy it.
“Previous drug cases involved heroin and crystal meth trafficking. When the forces simultaneously stopped and arrested the criminals, they probably switched to liquid drugs to avoid the authorities at the border gate,” Mr. Nam shared.
