Prime Minister: A heroic country with low income, what's so exciting?

The Prime Minister chaired the conference at the Government headquarters.

On January 18, in Hanoi, the Central Emulation and Reward Council held a meeting to evaluate the results of the 2017 work and deploy tasks in 2018. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Chairman of the Council, chaired the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc assessed that in 2017, the Council had been active. Many movements of the Front, organizations, ministries, branches and localities were launched and implemented, creating attraction. Communication and information work on good people and good deeds were promoted. The Council was serious in rewarding, leaving 42 cases unqualified.

However, according to the Prime Minister, there is still a formalism in implementing some emulation movements, failing to mobilize the masses to participate. In some places, the Party Committee and the government have not paid attention.

Regarding the direction and tasks for 2018, the Prime Minister emphasized the spirit: Emulation and reward work must contribute to the transformation of the country to move the country forward. Therefore, emulation must be directed towards the people and the grassroots.

“I often say that a heroic country, a heroic people with such low average income is nothing to be excited about. We must find a way to make the nation better, more rich, more prosperous, no one left behind, especially the economy and society must develop sustainably and effectively,” the Prime Minister shared.

The Prime Minister emphasized: “We are talking about a story of Vietnam with gold forests and silver seas like a beautiful girl. Now this gold forest and silver sea has become a new economic tiger. Why not? Is it the aspiration and the desire to move our nation forward? Or should we just keep being the same? We must make this transformation stronger in our society.”

Right from the beginning of the year, it is necessary to organize a special emulation campaign, simultaneously deploying the implementation of the 2018 socio-economic development tasks of each ministry, branch and locality. The Government has issued Resolution 01 with 242 specific tasks, so ministries, branches and localities must have specific plans to implement them. Regularly and promptly discover examples of good people, good deeds, new models and must do more strongly, including 4 stages: Discovery, training, summary, replication.

Continue to improve the quality of rewards in a timely and correct manner. Use the results of political tasks and professional work as a measure of rewards.

The Prime Minister requested that media agencies spend more time introducing, promoting, praising and honoring advanced models, good people and good deeds, and valuable examples in society. Before giving awards, there must be many channels to communicate and get people's opinions on whether the recipients are worthy of the awards.

Localities must focus on reviewing and resolving the backlog of files on wartime awards and conferring the title of Heroic Vietnamese Mother. At the same time, step up inspection, examination and supervision of the organization and implementation of emulation.

Regarding the organization of the 70th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's call for patriotic emulation in 2018, the Prime Minister emphasized the spirit of practicality, efficiency, and thrift, creating a new momentum among the masses.

According to the Council's report, in 2017, the Central Emulation and Commendation Committee appraised and presented to the Prime Minister and the President 74,872 cases for commendation. Of these, 8,610 cases received extraordinary and specialized commendation, and 5,816 cases received commendation for achievements in performing socio-economic development tasks (accounting for 7.77%).

In 2018, the Council directed and urged ministries, departments, branches, central and local organizations to launch emulation movements right from the first days and months associated with the task of socio-economic development. 2018 is also the year to celebrate the 70th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's call for patriotic emulation, many activities will be organized such as state-level celebrations, television conferences in 3 regions (North - Central - South); meetings and exchanges between some Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, Heroes of Labor with the young generation, launching writing contests on good people, good deeds, and typical advanced models nationwide.
