Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad completes new government apparatus

In an effort to perfect Malaysia's new government apparatus, new Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad on May 18 announced several additional positions in the new Cabinet.

As planned, all members of the Malaysian Government's Cabinet will be sworn in on May 21.

The 14-member Cabinet positions, including Mahathir as Prime Minister and People's Justice Party (PKR) President Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as Deputy Prime Minister, are evenly divided among the four political parties in Prime Minister Mahathir's ruling Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition.

According to the decision of the new Prime Minister, the Education Minister will be held by the representative of the Malaysian Indigenous Peoples Party (PPBM) Maszlee Malik. Mohamed Azmin bin Ali of the People's Justice Party (Amanah) was appointed as the Economic Affairs Minister.

Next, Anthony Loke Siew Fook of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) was appointed as the Minister of Transport and the position of Minister of Information and Multimedia was also held by a PAP representative. The position of Minister of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry was held by Salahuddin Ayub of the National Faith Party.

After being sworn in on May 10, he announced his intention to form a smaller Cabinet compared to the previous government led by Prime Minister Najib Razak, which had more than 25 ministers. On May 12, Mahathir appointed three key Cabinet positions, including the Minister of Home Affairs, the Minister of Defense, and the Minister of Finance.

Mr. Mahathir Mohamad served as Prime Minister of Malaysia from 1981 to 2003. Under his leadership, Malaysia has undergone enormous and fundamental changes. From the transportation system, the domestic automobile industry, to construction projects such as the Twin Towers, the administrative capital Putrajaya..., all bear the mark of leader Mahathir.

During the recent election campaign, he continuously appeared, through both social media and public speaking, to present his views on many issues that Malaysia is facing and that the people are concerned about.

Taking office as Prime Minister this time at the age of 92, Mr. Mahathir Mohamad became the oldest head of government in the world./.
