The Government Office has just issued a document conveying Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc's direction on the unusual fish deaths in West Lake (Hanoi).

In recent days, many newspapers and radio stations have continuously reported on the unusual fish deaths that occurred on a large scale in West Lake (Hanoi). The incident is attracting public attention.

Regarding this incident, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc directed: Hanoi People's Committee to focus on handling the incident, especially handling pollution, preventing possible epidemics, strictly prohibiting the use of dead fish as food, and promptly inspecting to clarify the cause, promptly informing the people.

Meanwhile, in an interview with the press on the afternoon of October 3, Mr. Do Anh Tuan, Chairman of Tay Ho District People's Committee, said that by 5:30 p.m., the authorities had basically collected all the dead fish in West Lake that had been causing pollution for the past few days. At 6:00 p.m. the same day, trucks were mobilized to transport all the remaining dead fish to be destroyed to avoid environmental pollution.

According to Mr. Tuan, initially, the dead fish floating on the surface have been completely removed. The authorities are still actively going around the lake shore, stirring the water to create oxygen for the remaining fish in the lake. Oxygen generators are installed around the West Lake shore.

Currently, the workers are cleaning the roadbed and collecting the remaining fish carcasses. In addition, they are spraying disinfectant to avoid causing pollution that could affect the lives of people living nearby.

Regarding the number of dead fish in the past few days, Mr. Tuan said that as of noon today, the initial statistics had collected about 60 tons of fish. As for the number of fish this afternoon, the unit is still continuing to count. Specific results will be available today (October 4). He also said that he will count the damage caused by dead fish in West Lake.

Regarding the fish deaths in West Lake, on October 3, the Hanoi People's Committee issued Official Dispatch No. 07/CD-UBND on strengthening the inspection and management of lakes in the city./.
