Just a moment after Mr. Nghi returned home, a fire broke out fiercely in the inner room. The youngest son discovered it and immediately called for help. Mrs. Quyen - Mr. Nghi's wife, who was working outside, ran in and saw the flames rising high. Mr. Nghi was writhing in the blanket, so she pulled her husband down to the floor and dragged him out to the porch, poured a basin of water on him, and together with her son called for help. Because the house was close to Highway 48, two young men heard the cries for help and stopped their motorbikes to rush onto the porch to put out the fire.
Mr. Nghi was saved but suffered severe burns and was taken to Nghe An Northwestern Regional General Hospital for emergency treatment by his family.
At the hospital, doctors in the Burn Department said that Mr. Nghi suffered burns to his limbs, back, and face and is now out of danger.
