Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, former Deputy Minister of National Defense, passed away due to a serious illness.
After a period of serious illness, despite the devoted care and treatment of the Party, State, army, professors, doctors, and family, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh passed away early this morning, September 14.
Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh was born on May 15, 1959. However, his personal documents state that he was born in 1957 (in a recent conversation with VietNamNet, the Senior Lieutenant General explained that when he applied to join the army, he was only 17 years old. If he declared his real age, he would not be allowed to join the army, so he had to declare 2 more years).
The General is from Quang Thang Commune, Quang Dien District, Thua Thien Hue Province. He is a member of the Party Central Committee, 11th and 12th terms; his professional qualifications are Associate Professor and Doctor of International Relations.
In 1998, he held the position of Deputy Director General of General Department II, Ministry of National Defense. In 2002, he was appointed Director General of General Department II, Ministry of National Defense. In February 2009, he was appointed by the Prime Minister as Deputy Minister of National Defense.

In January 2011, Mr. Nguyen Chi Vinh was elected as a member of the 11th Party Central Committee.
In 2011, he was promoted to the rank of Senior Lieutenant General. In January 2016, he was elected as a member of the 12th Party Central Committee.
At the ceremony to award the 40-year Party membership badge that took place at the end of August, General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense, commented that during his 40 years in the Party, Mr. Nguyen Chi Vinh has always been absolutely loyal to the Party, the Fatherland and the people.
Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh always emphasized organization, discipline, and principles, had a decisive, cautious, objective, close-knit, grassroots working style; was steadfast in Marxism-Leninism, Ho Chi Minh Thought, and the goals of national independence and socialism. The Senior Lieutenant General preserved, promoted, and shone with the qualities of “Uncle Ho’s Soldier,” pure revolutionary ethics, and successfully completed all assigned tasks; and always demonstrated the mettle and intelligence of a staunch communist, a cadre, and a general of the Army.
In particular, in his capacity as a member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Standing Committee of the Central Military Commission, and Deputy Minister of National Defense, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, together with the Standing Committee of the Central Military Commission and leaders of the Ministry of National Defense, advised and proposed to the Party and State on planning and effectively implementing military and defense policies; international integration, defense diplomacy; policies and measures to handle complex and sensitive situations arising related to defense and security, contributing to protecting the Fatherland early and from afar.
