Continuing the Soviet tradition in President Ho Chi Minh's homeland.
Building upon the fine traditions of their homeland, especially the spirit of the Nghe Tinh Soviet throughout history, the Party Committee, government, and people of Nam Dan always uphold the great political responsibility of being the homeland of beloved President Ho Chi Minh, striving to live up to his affection in every thought, action, and deed.
Soviet flames blazed in the district hall.
Following the initial struggle of the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement that broke out in Vinh - Ben Thuy on May 1, 1930, the fighting spirit of workers, peasants, and soldiers quickly spread to Nam Dan, urging the masses to rise up for freedom and sustenance.
In response to this situation, in early June 1930, the Nam Dan District Party Committee convened a meeting and decided to organize a demonstration at Don Market on June 18, 1930 (lunar calendar), to protest the colonial government's repression and terror against the working class and peasants of Vinh - Ben Thuy and Hanh Lam (Thanh Chuong).
At dawn on June 18, 1930, Don Market was packed with revolutionary masses. District Chief Le Khac Tuong panicked and sent his henchmen to gather information. Upon learning of the situation, he hastily boarded a rickshaw intending to flee to Vinh to escape. However, the crowd intercepted him, forcing him to return to Don Market to receive the people's demands. Under pressure from the large crowd, the District Chief promised to present the demands to the Governor-General of Nghe An.
This was one of the large-scale struggles, meticulously prepared by the Party committees and branches, that achieved its objectives and contributed to strengthening the people's trust in the leadership of the local Party organizations.

Next, in responseAn urgent appealAccording to a report published in the newspaper "The Suffering Worker" by the Vinh General Confederation of Labor - the official mouthpiece of the Central Vietnam Regional Party Committee - the Nam Dan District Party Committee continued to discuss plans to fight for the abolition of exorbitant taxes and levies; to release all those arrested during the struggles; and to refrain from terrorizing, suppressing, or killing those participating in rallies, demonstrations, freedom of speech, and freedom of strike and protest…
On the morning of August 30, 1930, under the leadership of the Party committees at all levels, thousands of people in the district took to the streets from early morning, gathering at three main locations: Tam Duong Pagoda, Ghenh ferry landing, and the shrine of King Mai. People from the villages had already gone to the Nam Tan and Ke Tria ferry landings by 3-4 a.m. to cross the river as planned. The masses, in orderly ranks, carrying banners, slogans, sticks, spears, and machetes, marched with overwhelming enthusiasm towards the District headquarters.
Faced with the overwhelming momentum of the revolutionary masses, they broke into the prison, freed the prisoners, burned the documents and records, and forced District Chief Le Khac Tuong to sign a list of demands with a commitment."Do not harass the people," cThe Nam Dan district government was almost paralyzed. The resurgence of the struggle at the district headquarters plunged the ruling authorities in Nam Dan into a state of panic.
What was unique about Nam Dan was that this struggle combined political and armed struggle. This event had a tremendous impact on the struggle movement in Nghe Tinh, affirming the maturity of the Nam Dan District Party Committee in organizational and leadership work.

As the struggle of the people of Nghe Tinh entered a new, more intense phase, the people of Nam Dan and Hung Nguyen continued to rise up, creating the historic demonstration on September 12, 1930, forcing the French colonialists to send planes to bomb and massacre the protesters, killing more than 200 people and injuring hundreds. The Thai Lao demonstration broke out in Hung Nguyen, but a large number of people from the Nam Kim commune of Nam Dan district participated, and many also sacrificed their lives. Despite these trials and losses, the people of Nam Dan did not waver, continuing to fight with unwavering determination:
"...The red flag flutters straight in the wind."
White paper was scattered on the ground.
A fierce battle along the way
"On one side, bullets of iron; on the other, courage of gold."
Despite the brutal terror and repression of the enemy, Soviet-style administrations were established in many villages and communes of Nam Dan district. Although they only existed for a short time, they were a tremendous achievement of the strength of the masses, under the leadership of the Party, making history in the revolutionary movement of 1930-1931 in Nghe Tinh province.
Transforming Soviet spirit into intrinsic strength in the new era.
Building on the heroic spirit of the Nghe Tinh Soviet, during the two protracted wars of national resistance, the Party Committee of Nam Dan district led the people in shouldering extremely heavy responsibilities, simultaneously striving to build and protect the rear while directly fighting and providing support to the front lines.
The Party Committee and people of Nam Dan district have highly demonstrated revolutionary heroism, working together to achieve many glorious victories, making great contributions to the cause of national liberation and reunification of the country. With outstanding achievements in the resistance war against the US to save the country, Nam Dan district was honored by the Party and State with the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces.

Entering the period of national construction and defense, with dynamism, creativity, and relentless effort, Nam Dan district has gradually overcome difficulties and built its homeland into an increasingly prosperous, beautiful, and civilized place.
The district's appearance has undergone remarkable changes: political stability, increasingly developed economy, flourishing culture and society, maintained national defense and security, and continuously improved material and spiritual lives for the people. Nam Dan District has been recognized by the Government as achieving the standards of a new rural district. Notably, it is one of four districts nationwide selected by the Central Government to pilot the construction of a model new rural district. The district is confident, striving, and determined to complete all criteria and achieve the status of an advanced new rural district; and by 2025, to complete and achieve the status of a "Model New Rural District with a focus on cultural development linked to tourism".
Over the past five years of implementing the program to build a district that meets the standards of advanced new rural areas, Nam Dan district has mobilized the participation of the entire political system with high determination, bringing about a strong transformation in the awareness of officials, Party members, and people throughout the district. To date, 15 out of 18 communes in the district have met the standards of advanced new rural areas according to the set of criteria for advanced new rural areas in the 2021-2025 period, reaching 83% of the communes. The district has basically implemented 9 out of 9 criteria for an advanced new rural district as stipulated in Decision No. 320/QD-TTg dated March 8, 2022, of the Prime Minister.

Local agricultural production has now shifted to a concentrated, commercial scale, focusing on diversifying crops and establishing value chains to increase added value per unit area, with 1 hectare of cultivated land yielding 168 million VND/ha. By 2023, the entire district had 69 OCOP-certified products, including 9 products that met the 4-star standard.
Tourism in Nam Dan is developing strongly, welcoming over 2.5 million tourists annually, of which foreign tourists account for about 2%, and the number of overnight visitors is increasing; tourism service revenue in 2023 reached over 350 billion VND.
These efforts have helped Nam Dan district transform itself. The average per capita income increased from 43 million VND in 2018 to 65 million VND in 2023. The poverty rate is now only 0.67%, and the quality of education and healthcare is becoming increasingly comprehensive.

Based on the development orientation until 2025, the government and people of Nam Dan have clearly identified key issues to focus on implementing, such as completing the district's regional planning in a fundamental, systematic, and long-term manner, in line with the long-term planning of the Central Government and the province.
During the revolutionary fervor of 1930-1931, under the leadership of the Party, the people of Nam Dan, with their soaring spirit, contributed to the heroic Nghe Tinh Soviet movement.
Today, Nam Dan has also strongly promoted the fine traditions of its homeland to gradually assert itself in the rhythm of modern life.
