Malia Obama, the eldest daughter of US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, will be a member of Harvard University's graduating class of 2021, CNN reported, citing an announcement from the White House.

Malia, 17, is a senior at Sidwell Friends High School, a private school in Washington, DC. Her entrance to Harvard University is seen as continuing a family tradition, as both Mr. Obama and his wife, Michelle, graduated from Harvard Law School.

Malia's college choice has long been a hot topic of discussion. According to the New York Times, Malia visited many different universities, including six prestigious Ivy League schools: Brown, Columbia, Harvard, Princeton, the University of Pennsylvania and Yale.

Manila's academic records and test scores are kept secret. Obama once described his daughter as "very hard-working."

At the White House Correspondents' Association dinner on April 30, President Obama also said his family plans to stay in Washington for two more years after his term ends so that his second daughter, Sasha, can finish her high school studies.
