Nghe An Court sentences drug trafficker to death for 15 million VND
(Baonghean.vn) - Greedy for money, Dai agreed to transport more than 2.8 kg of drugs for a stranger. At that time, Dai claimed that his nephew was the one who hired him to transport the drugs but could not prove it.
On December 8, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of Ngan Van Dai (born 1975), residing in Tri Le commune, Que Phong district, for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking”.
According to the investigation documents, at around 2:00 a.m. on April 28, a man called to hire Ngan Van Dai to transport drugs to Yen Ly intersection, Dien Chau district. Dai and the man agreed to pick up the goods at the market area in Tri Le commune, then transport them to the agreed location. When Dai arrived at the location, someone would contact him and receive the drugs and pay Dai 15 million VND for the job.

At around 2:30 a.m. the same day, a young man came to give Dai a package containing rice and 3 packages of drugs. Dai then hired a car to take him to Yen Ly intersection. At around 6:30 a.m. the same day, while Dai was waiting to deliver drugs to a customer, he was arrested by the police along with 3 packages of drugs weighing more than 2.8 kg.
During the prosecution, Ngan Van Dai changed his testimony, saying that the seized drugs belonged to Ngan Van Hung, residing in Tri Le commune, Que Phong district. Hung is Dai's nephew. Hung asked Dai to transport the drugs to Yen Ly intersection for someone else.
The People's Procuracy of Nghe An province has sent a document requesting the Nghe An provincial police investigation agency to coordinate in the verification. The verification results show that Dai's wife did not admit that Hung came to the house to give money, phone SIM cards, scratch cards, and a bag of rice to the defendant's wife. On the other hand, Ngan Van Hung has not been present in Tri Le commune since March 2020. Therefore, there is not enough evidence to confirm that the above drugs belong to Hung as Dai's statement.
At the witness stand, the defendant initially claimed he did not know there were drugs in the package. “I was only transporting rice for someone to Yen Ly intersection. I did not know there were drugs,” Dai stated. But later, the defendant admitted his crime and asked for a lighter sentence.
Considering the large amount of drugs that the defendant participated in transporting, the People's Court sentenced Ngan Van Dai.death penaltyfor the crime of "Illegal transportation of drugs".
