Vinh City screened nearly 290,000 people, detected more than 30 positive cases

On the afternoon of August 28, Ms. Tran Thi Cam Tu - Vice Chairwoman of Vinh City People's Committee said that the city has just started the second large-scale sampling campaign. "This campaign will collect samples for nearly 65,000 people in high-risk wards and communes. It is expected to be collected in one afternoon," Ms. Tu said.

This move comes as the results of the previous citywide testing campaign showed that there were still many cases in the community in some areas. The wards that will be tested for the second time are Hong Son, Vinh Tan, Hung Binh and Nghi Phu.

According to Ms. Tu, in the first campaign, Vinh city took samples for testing for more than 288,000 people, reaching 84% of the population. The results showed that so far, more than 30 positive cases have been detected, mostly concentrated in these 4 wards and communes. A few remaining samples are awaiting confirmation testing.

For the remaining wards and communes, the authorities will focus on reviewing those who were not sampled in the previous round to send them for testing this time. "We aim to test all residents and temporary residents in Vinh City at this time," said Ms. Tu, adding that the city leaders have also instructed the wards and communes to review each household, absolutely not leaving anyone out.

In the previous round of testing, Vinh Tan ward had the most cases, with 9 cases. (6 cases were discovered by the government through community screening, 3 cases were discovered by people calling for testing services on the same day). This is also the ward with the largest number of cases in Vinh City at present, with 45 cases, as of the afternoon of August 28. Since the beginning of the epidemic, the province has recorded 1,244 Covid-19 patients in 21 localities, of which Vinh City has 383 cases.
