Solemn funeral of two Yen Thanh martyrs who died in Quang Tri
(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of October 23, the funeral of two martyrs, Senior Lieutenant Tran Van Toan and Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Van Thu of Economic - Defense Group 337, was solemnly held in Yen Thanh district.

Attending the ceremony on behalf of the province were comrade Nguyen Van Thong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, representatives of the leaders of Military Region 4 Command; provincial departments, branches, and organizations; and the Provincial Military Command.
Also attending the ceremony were comrade Nguyen Viet Hung - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of Yen Thanh District Party Committee; representatives of the district's departments, branches and unions; officers and soldiers of Economic - Defense Group 337, and a large number of local people.
Martyr Nguyen Van Thu was born on February 2, 1984 in hamlet 7, Tang Thanh commune. He enlisted in the army in February 2004 and was sent by his unit to learn to drive.
After graduating, he was assigned to the 337th Economic - Defense Group and after 16 years of training and striving, he was awarded the rank of Professional Military Lieutenant.

After performing a mission to help people overcome the consequences of floods, at 1 a.m. on October 18, a landslide occurred, burying the unit's rest house. He and 21 of his teammates died.

In recognition of his sacrifice while on duty, Lieutenant Tran Van Toan was recognized as a martyr by the Prime Minister and awarded a Certificate of National Merit; and was posthumously promoted to the rank of Senior Lieutenant by the Minister of National Defense ahead of schedule.
In infinite grief and sorrow, the Party Committee, the Command of Military Region 4; the Provincial Party Committee, the People's Council, the People's Committee, the Fatherland Front Committee of Nghe An province, Yen Thanh district and the people of the district respectfully bowed to bid farewell to martyr Nguyen Van Thu.
After the funeral and memorial service, the remains of martyr Nguyen Van Thu were buried at Con Son cemetery, Tang Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district.
Quynh Trang - Dang Tri
On the same day, the funeral of martyr Tran Van Toan - Senior Lieutenant of the Professional Army, Economic - Defense Group 337, Military Region 4, who sacrificed his life while performing the task of helping people overcome the consequences of floods on October 18, was also held at the Martyrs Cemetery of Yen Thanh district.
Attending the ceremony were comrade Vo Thi Minh Sinh - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Nghe An province; representatives of the Military Region 4 Command; the Provincial Military Command; officers and soldiers of Economic - Defense Group 337; leaders of the District Party Committee - People's Council - People's Committee - Fatherland Front Committee of Yen Thanh district; martyrs' relatives and a large number of people.

Lieutenant Tran Van Toan, from Xuan Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, born on May 2, 1983, enlisted in 2004 and is a driver, Staff - Planning Department, Economic - Defense Group 337.
Along with 21 teammates, he died in a landslide that occurred at 1:10 a.m. on October 18 at Economic - Defense Group 337.

Their spirit of patriotism and love for the people has contributed to beautifying the good qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers", as well as the revolutionary tradition of their homeland Yen Thanh.
