Stealing a safe, breaking open 37 million and throwing it into the river
(Baonghean.vn) - After breaking into a house and stealing a safe, Muoi brought it back to his house and drilled under the safe to get 37 million VND. Thinking he had run out of money, Muoi threw the safe into the river to destroy the evidence.
Quynh Luu District Police said that the Investigation Police Agency has decided to prosecute and detain Nguyen Van Muoi (born in 1974, residing in Hamlet 11, Linh Son Commune, Anh Son District) for theft of property.
Previously, on the morning of July 28, Mr. Nguyen Van Nam (born in 1964, residing in Quynh Chau commune, Quynh Luu) went to the police station to report that his family's safe had been stolen.

According to Mr. Nam, in the safe there were 95 million VND in cash, 14 taels of gold, 80,000 Japanese Yen, 5 savings books worth over 1 billion VND and 4 land use right certificates.
After receiving a citizen's report, Quynh Luu District Police established a special investigation. After more than 2 days of investigation and screening, at around 4:00 p.m. on July 30, Quynh Luu District Police coordinated with Anh Son District Police to urgently arrest Nguyen Van Muoi.
When arrested, Nguyen Van Muoi admitted to stealing Mr. Nam's safe in the early morning of July 28.
Muoi confessed that after breaking into the house and stealing the safe, Muoi drove it back to his house about 70km from the scene. Muoi drilled under the safe and took 37 million VND. Thinking he had run out of money, Nguyen Van Muoi... threw the safe into the river to destroy the evidence.
From Muoi's testimony, the police salvaged the safe, inside there were still 14 taels of gold, 80,000 Japanese Yen, 58 million VND in cash, many savings books and land titles.
