Growing Thai papaya "makes" money

(Baonghean.vn) - Mr. Tran Van Mai, Hamlet 2A, Thanh Phong Commune, is the first person in Thanh Chuong District to grow Thai papaya. The special feature of this variety is that it bears fruit when it is only about 40 cm tall, the fruit is large, has beautiful color and is very delicious.

One year ago, Mr. Mai bought 50 Thai papaya trees from the Agricultural Genetics Institute for experimental planting.

The Thai papaya tree is dwarf and bears fruit when it is only about 40 cm tall. Trees over 60 cm tall bear a lot of fruit and are very productive.

The advantage of Thai papaya is that the tree trunk is strong, less susceptible to pests and diseases, and easy to bear fruit. The fruit is large, fleshy, hollow... each fruit weighs about 1.5-2kg. When ripe, it has a beautiful deep yellow color.

Mr. Mai's papaya garden has been harvested since March, each month yielding about 250 kg of papaya. On the 1st and 15th of the lunar month, traders come to the garden to buy at an average price of 10,000 VND per fruit. In total, each month, Mr. Mai's family earns nearly 3 million VND from selling ripe papaya.

Thai papaya has red-yellow flesh, thick pulp, basically seedless, when eaten it has a very special sweet and aromatic taste, so it is very popular in the market.

Many locals have come to learn about and order Thai papaya seeds. Mr. Mai plans to continue buying Thai papaya seeds to grow on his farm and supply to people who need to grow them. Thai papaya trees promise to be a new economic development direction for the people of Thanh Phong, Thanh Chuong.
