Based on practical needs, according to statistics, about 61 to 83% of all children suffer from otitis media. Children who have frequent otitis media in the first 3 years of life will almost always continue to have otitis media throughout their primary school years. Temporary hearing loss during otitis media can occur during the important years of language development, leading to a situation where children may have delayed language development.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that patients with frequent otitis media should have their hearing evaluated every three months; hearing screening should be performed for children at the following ages: 3, 4, 5, 10, 12, 15, and 18 years old.
