Do Luong Traditional Market and Commercial Center: Launch pad for the district's economy

Policy to innovate traditional market model

The Do Luong Traditional Market and Trade Center is one of the key projects of Nghe An province, with an investment capital of up to 330 billion VND. With a consumption capacity of up to thousands of items and favorable business conditions, this is a project to replace the old Do Luong market which has been degraded for more than 30 years, no longer ensuring fire prevention and fighting safety and food hygiene and safety for operation.

According to Mr. Tran Duy Dong, Director of the Domestic Market Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), wholesale markets play an important role, contributing significantly to the socio-economic development of each locality in particular and the whole country in general. Markets are places that provide essential goods such as food, foodstuffs, consumer goods, meeting the needs of the people; at the same time, creating jobs, increasing livelihood opportunities for people and generating revenue for the budget. According to Decision 6481/QD-BCT of the Ministry of Industry and Trade on approving the Master Plan for the development of the national market network until 2025, with a vision to 2035, Vietnam currently has 14 existing wholesale markets, with a plan to renovate and upgrade 19 wholesale markets from now until 2025 and build 55 new wholesale markets.

Stimulate consumption, boost the economy

Talking to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Cong Minh - representative of the investor of the Hai An - Do Luong Market Investment, Construction, Management and Exploitation Cooperative said that the construction of the commercial center combined with the traditional Do Luong market is in line with the market innovation policy of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the State. After being put into operation, the new market will play the role of a wholesale market in the West of Nghe An, supplying goods to at least 6 neighboring districts of Do Luong, namely Tan Ky, Anh Son, Nam Dan, Nghi Loc, Yen Thanh, Thanh Chuong, boosting revenue for small traders and at the same time being a launching pad for the economic development of Do Luong district.

Mr. Nguyen Cong Minh - representative of the investor said that the project's rapid progress is partly due to the great support and assistance from departments of Nghe An province, Do Luong district as well as small traders.

Attending the visit to the construction site of the Do Luong traditional market-trade center project, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam (Trang Son commune, Do Luong) shared her excitement: “I am currently selling fruits at the old Do Luong market, but because the fire prevention system and the heat and rain protection system of the market are not guaranteed, trading conditions are very difficult. Knowing that the new market has been invested in both construction and management, small traders in the old market like me have registered for kiosks, hoping that in the future, trading will be less difficult and there will be more customers, increasing income.”

Mr. Tran Duc Tuan (Dang Son commune, Do Luong) said: “My daughter is currently in Korea and plans to return to Vietnam and do business at the market soon. I see that the Do Luong traditional market and shopping center has a beautiful location right on Highway 7, is large in scale, and the fire prevention and food safety systems are all guaranteed. In particular, the project was constructed very quickly, the workers worked carefully, and the construction used good materials, so I am completely assured.”

Introducing the project, Mr. Nguyen Cong Minh affirmed: “The project is being controlled with progress and quality in accordance with the investor's commitment. Currently, the rough construction stage has completed 50% of the work volume, and it is expected that all kiosks will be completed in June 2020. Construction materials as well as exterior decorations are closely following the design, and are carefully inspected for quality by reputable units. After completion, the old market management board will work with the investor to build a commercial center combined with Do Luong market to become the busiest market in Western Nghe An, accompanying people in all business activities as well as contributing a significant role to the development of Do Luong district.
