The 21st Covid-19 death case due to serious underlying disease
On the morning of August 14, MSc. Nguyen Trong Khoa - Deputy Head of the Ministry of Health's special standing unit for Covid-19 prevention and control in Da Nang city informed about the Covid-19 death case.
This is the 21st Covid-19 death since the outbreak in Vietnam.
Patient 585 (BN585):Female patient, 61 years old, address Hoa Vang District, Da Nang City. Medical history: Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, obesity.
From July 10-17, the patient went to Da Nang Hospital for examination and was admitted to the Geriatric Department for treatment;
On July 18-21, the patient had a fever at home;
On July 21-28, the patient was admitted to the Emergency Department, Da Nang Hospital.
After that, the patient was tired and could not breathe so he was transferred to the Intensive Care - Anti-Poison Department;
From July 29 to August 1, the patient was transferred to the Department of Nephrology - Urology, then transferred to the Department of Oncology, Da Nang Hospital;
On July 31, the patient's sample was taken for testing and the result was positive for SARS-CoV-2;
From August 1-6, the patient was transferred to isolation and treatment at Hoa Vang District Medical Center, with the diagnosis upon admission: Pneumonia due to SARS-CoV-2 in a patient with type 2 diabetes, hypertension, complications of sepsis from the urinary tract, multiple organ failure;
On August 5, the patient showed signs of respiratory failure and vasomotor disorder, was intubated and put on a ventilator;

On August 11, the patient was removed from ECMO and was prescribed plasma exchange;
On August 12, the patient's condition worsened, with septic shock, acute liver failure, acute kidney injury, severe hypotension, and irreversible vasomotor disorder. At 10:00 p.m., the patient died.
Diagnosis of death: Covid-19 pneumonia complicated by severe respiratory failure, septic shock with multiple organ damage in a patient with type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and obesity.
Thus, up to this point, there have been 21 Covid-19 patients in our country who have died since the beginning of the epidemic. These are the patients(BN496, BN426, BN429, BN524, BN475, BN499, BN428, BN437, BN 651, BN 718, BN456, BN430, BN737, BN436, BN 522. BN832, BN485, BN623, BN479 and BN585).
Most of the deaths in our country so far are elderly people, with serious underlying diseases such as end-stage chronic renal failure, end-stage leukemia unresponsive to chemotherapy, coronary syndrome, acute respiratory failure, osteoarthritis, hypertension, chronic adrenal insufficiency, type 2 diabetes, sepsis, pneumonia, exhaustion, multiple organ failure...
