According to the Ministry of Health, to date, the country has recorded about 10 people infected with the Zika virus.

Among them, for the first time, a 4-month-old baby in Dak Lak was found to have microcephaly suspected to be caused by the Zika virus. Regarding this case, the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology has just announced that next week it will clearly announce the cause of the microcephaly of the baby mentioned above.

The baby with microcephaly is named H'Le, 4 years old, Ede ethnic group in Krong Buk district, Dak Lak province. When H'Le was 3 months pregnant, the mother had symptoms of fever and rash. The Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology conducted 5 tests and all 5 times showed that the mother and baby had antibodies to the Zika virus, proving that both mother and child were previously infected with this virus.

Mr. Dang Duc Anh, Director of the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, said: The Institute is coordinating with Nagasaki University, Japan to test whether the baby's microcephaly is caused by the Zika virus or other causes. Mr. Dang Duc Anh said that the test results will be announced next week. According to Mr. Tran Dac Phu, Director of the Department of Preventive Medicine (Ministry of Health), our country is currently circulating the Zika virus in Ades mosquitoes (also known as Aedes mosquitoes), so it is likely that H'Le's microcephaly is related to the Zika virus.

Mr. Tran Dac Phu said: "Currently, we cannot confirm with certainty, but we have carried out a series of measures such as handling the outbreak, spraying chemicals to kill mosquitoes, investigating whether pregnant mothers in the epidemic area have symptoms of Zika infection. If so, we need to test to determine, from there, we can advise and actively propagate disease prevention but not panic."
