For 5 million in drug trafficking fees, man sentenced to 20 years in prison

On the morning of August 17, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Nguyen Huu Quang (born 1976), residing in Dien Trung commune, Dien Chau district, for the crime of "illegally transporting narcotics".

According to the indictment, at 7:30 p.m. on March 21, 2018, on National Highway 48, through Nghia Thuan commune, Thai Hoa town, Nguyen Huu Quang was discovered and caught red-handed by the police while illegally transporting drugs with a total weight of 1,976.93 grams.

At the investigation agency, Quang confessed that a man named Hung asked Quang to transport drugs and promised to pay him, Quang agreed. At about 6:00 p.m. on March 21, 2018, Hung called Quang and told him to take drugs from Yen Thanh to Thai Hoa town and he would pay Quang 5 million VND for the job.

After receiving the goods in Yen Thanh, Quang drove a motorbike carrying the drugs to Thai Hoa town. However, Quang's actions caught the attention of the police, and Quang was arrested for "illegally transporting drugs".

In court, the defendant Quang choked up several times, showed remorse, and confessed honestly. However, considering the defendant’s actions were especially dangerous and the amount of drugs he transported was large, the panel sentenced Nguyen Huu Quang to 20 years in prison.
