Taxi driver murder in My Dinh: What do local authorities say about the suspect?

On the morning of February 4, Mr. Le Dinh Thong - Chairman of the People's Committee of Trang Son commune, Do Luong district, said that the local government is coordinating with the police to clarify the identity of suspect Nguyen Canh An (born in 1999) in the murder of a taxi driver in front of My Dinh stadium, Nam Tu Liem district on the evening of January 29.

According to Mr. Thong, Hanoi City Police sent a number of investigators to the locality to clarify Nguyen Canh An's identity because of suspicion of his involvement in the murder case. A representative of the commune police directly led the investigators to An's house to work.

“Nguyen Canh An is the second son in a family of four siblings. His family is a farmer so his economy is normal. In the area, An has no criminal record,” said Mr. Thong.

According to the commune chairman, An is a vagabond and often commits petty theft. Not long ago, he stole several million from his mother and a motorbike, and the local authorities called him up to warn him.

“Canh An dropped out of school before finishing high school and went to the South to work. About 15-20 days ago, his eldest sister got married, so An went home to attend the wedding. However, at that time, the subject was still normal, showing no strange signs, so no one suspected anything. After the wedding, An continued to leave home and said he was going to work,” said Mr. Thong.

Previously, at around 8:00 p.m. on January 29, Phu Do Ward Police, Nam Tu Liem District Police, Hanoi City, received a report from residents about a robbery and murder of a taxi driver on Le Duc Tho Street, in front of gate 2 of My Dinh National Stadium.

Upon receiving the report, the police arrived at the scene to examine the crime scene, take statements from witnesses, and investigate. Through investigation, the police identified the victim as Nguyen Van D. (26 years old, residing in Dong Son village, Quang Tien commune, Soc Son district, Hanoi).

On the evening of February 3, the Criminal Police Department of Hanoi City Police coordinated with the professional force of the Ministry of Public Security to arrest Nguyen Canh An to investigate the above case.
