Do Cung Bridge, costing nearly 180 billion VND, opens to traffic: Eliminates dangerous ferry crossings, opens up trading opportunities
After many years of waiting, the Do Cung bridge connecting the two banks of the Lam River between Cat Ngan commune (former Thanh Chuong district) and Thuan Trung commune (former Do Luong district) officially opened to traffic on August 12. The operation of the Cung ferry - which used to be the only means of crossing the river for thousands of households for many years - was also officially terminated.
According to the reporter of Nghe An Newspaper and Radio and Television at the scene on August 12, Do Cung bridge stands tall across Lam Giang river, the two roads leading to the bridge have been completely paved. Motorbikes and cars of people on both banks of Lam river have been circulating.

Witnessing this meaningful moment, Mr. Nguyen Van Tan, a resident of Cat Ngan commune, emotionally shared: “For generations, we have had to take a ferry to cross to the old Do Luong district. Every time there is a flood, crossing the river becomes more dangerous, everyone is always afraid. Now, being able to walk on a sturdy and safe bridge, I must say the people are very excited.”

The opening of Do Cung bridge across Lam river not only meets the need for convenient and safe travel for people on both sides of the river, but also opens up opportunities for trade and exchange of goods between neighboring communes. The project is expected to promote socio-economic development and improve the quality of life for people in the area.
Mr. Tran Xuan Ha - Chairman of Cat Ngan Commune People's Committee said that Do Cung bridge is the long-standing desire and dream of the people of Cat Ngan area and the communes on both sides of Lam river. The bridge being officially put into use means that Cung ferry is eliminated, ending its operation after many years of serving the need to cross the river.


The Do Cung bridge project has a total length of about 420m and a width of 9m. The starting point of the bridge is at Km111+530 National Highway 46C, Cat Ngan commune; the ending point of the bridge is at Km55+160 National Highway 46B, Thuan Trung commune.
The bridge has a total length of about 1.5km, designed according to the standards of a level IV plain road. The total investment of the project is nearly 180 billion VND, and construction started on December 30, 2022.
