Coming to Mon Son on a day at the end of May, when farmers are entering the spring rice harvest season. Muong Qua fields are covered with the golden color of ripe rice. All over the roads are bustling with trucks carrying rice home, the villages resound with the sound of threshing machines. In the middle of the yard, the elderly and children spread the rice out to dry, it is harvest season so everyone has a job to do...

In the spring crop of 2015, Mon Son commune planted about 360 hectares of rice, mainly hybrid rice. Thanks to the application of scientific and technical advances in production and fertilization, and investment in the construction of an intra-field canal system, this year's spring rice grew well, achieved quite high quality, and the average yield reached over 56.4 quintals/ha. With the success of the spring rice crop, farmers in Mon Son commune are really assured, because the food supply for the year is basically met. Ms. Vi Thi Tan - a farmer in Cang village shared: "This year's rice crop is good, and the sun is shining, so drying is very convenient. Every house has full houses and full yards of rice, everyone is happy, this year there is no need to worry about hunger...".

Leaving Muong Qua fields, we visited Mon Son villages, where ancient stilt houses are looming under the shade of palm trees and ancient trees. The road back to the village is now much easier to travel than before, no longer rough and bumpy but has been paved with smooth concrete. That is the result of the new rural construction process that is being actively implemented in this remote countryside. Xieng village - where brocade weaving is famous and where the handicraft cooperative has been established for nearly 10 years - is also busy with the harvest season. However, Xieng women still take advantage of their free time to weave, because the delivery schedule is approaching. Although not the main occupation, brocade weaving has helped Xieng women have a significant additional source of income, nearly 1 million VND/worker per month to support their family. Talking to Ms. Ha Thi Hang, Head of the Handicraft Cooperative, we learned that many partners have come to order and process products, so in the near future there will certainly be more work and higher income. Ban Xieng has been given the sign "Community Tourism Site" by UNESCO, which is also an important direction to help women in the village consume traditional brocade weaving products.

Not far from Xieng village is Cang village, known for its good performance in preserving and promoting the cultural identity of the Thai ethnic group. The village's folk song and musical instrument club was established approximately 10 years ago and has just been recognized as a provincial model. When the farming and swidden work is finished, Cang village is filled with the sounds of gongs, panpipes, pi and lam and nhuon melodies. After enjoying the scenery, tourist groups often come to Cang village to enjoy the specialties and enjoy the beauty of customs, habits, cultural life, and unique spirit...

From Cang village, down to Thai Son, Nam Son, Bac Son, Tan Son, Cua Rao, Thai Hoa and Lang Yen. Wherever you go, you can feel the positive changes... The Dan Lai people from Khe Khang resettled in Tan Son and Cua Rao villages, their lives have begun to stabilize, people are gradually getting used to the new way of doing business, their awareness is being raised. The road from the commune center running along the Giang River to Co Phat and Khe Bung villages is being invested in by the State, roads are being formed. In the near future, the lives of the Dan Lai people in the upper reaches of Khe Khang will have many changes; because with the road, economic and social exchanges will be easier and more convenient, and electricity will come to light up the villages... All of these make a change in a revolutionary countryside, affirming the resilience and will to rise of the cadres and people in this frontier land.

For a long time, Mon Son - Muong Qua has been known as a land with rich tourism potential, especially eco-tourism and community tourism. Mon Son mountains are majestic and charming, with Pu Mat primeval forest, poetic Giang river with famous cool fish specialties, and poetic Pha Lai landscape. Thai people in Mon Son still preserve the beauty of their identity, which is customs, habits, traditional occupations and dishes with the rich flavor of the mountains and forests. The song "Muong Qua rice, Giang river fish" has been passed down for generations, and is also the pride of many generations of Muong Qua people. The direction of tourism development will help Mon Son people promote the potential that nature has given them to have more income and improve their lives...

Speaking before the XXVIth Party Congress of the commune (term 2015 - 2020), comrade Vi Van Nam, Secretary of the Party Committee of Mon Son commune affirmed: "In the next term, Mon Son will continue to rely on the foundation of revolutionary tradition, promote internal strength, boost economic development, create a breakthrough in economic restructuring, build a clean and strong Party organization, and gradually successfully implement the goal of building new rural areas".
