Trial of a group of gamblers who gambled after a housewarming party
(Baonghean.vn) - After the housewarming party, when the homeowner had gone to bed, 13 gamblers split into 2 groups to gamble and were arrested by the police.
On the morning of February 25, Tan Ky District People's Court tried the criminal case against Nguyen Tien Trinh, Vo Duy Huan, Nguyen Van Thuan, Phan Ke Thin, Tran Quoc Toan, Nguyen Duc Truong, and Dao Ngoc Tu, all residing in Nghia Dong commune, for gambling.
According to the indictment, on November 28, 2018, after a housewarming party at Mr. Dao Xuan Tai's house (Hamlet 3, Nghia Dong Commune), 13 people split into groups to gamble. At this time (10 p.m. the same day), Mr. Tai and his wife and children had all gone to bed.

Group 1 includes: Trinh, Huan, Thuan, Thin, Toan, Duc Truong and Tu. This group agrees to gamble by playing cards, betting 20 thousand dong per game; Group 2 includes: Van Truong, Vi, Trung, Tuyen, Ngo and Hung, agreeing to bet 10 thousand dong per game.
At 00:10 on November 29, while the subjects were gambling with each other on the gambling mat, the Tan Ky District Police working group came in and caught them red-handed, seizing 5,510,000 VND from the gambling mat.
During the process of making a record of the arrest of the offender, Nguyen Van Hung took advantage of the loophole and ran away. However, at 10:00 a.m. on November 29, Hung voluntarily went to the Tan Ky District Police Department to present himself and confessed to all his gambling acts.
At the first gambling table, the total amount of money the subjects used for gambling was 15 million 890 thousand VND; at the second gambling table, the total amount of money the subjects used for gambling was 2 million 10 thousand VND.
Tan Ky district police decided to administratively punish the subjects of the second gambling ring.
At the end of the trial, the panel sentenced Trinh and Thuan each to 12 months of non-custodial reform, Thin and Huan to 9 months of non-custodial reform; Toan and Tu each to 6 months in prison with a suspended sentence, and Duc Truong to 15 months of non-custodial reform.
