(Baonghean.vn) - A deaf and mute mother raising a child with a brain tumor is the pitiful situation of the family of Ms. Hoang Thi Chin in Trung Son commune, Do Luong district.
Ms. Chin has been deaf and mute since childhood, unable to speak or hear. She can only communicate with others through her eyes, gestures, and movements. Every time she feeds her child, Chin cries. |
In the old house precariously perched on the hillside, which was later rebuilt by local organizations and brothers, the mother and son and Dat's grandmother lived through difficult, deprived days, but filled with love. Due to her disability, she chose to make a living by sewing by hand. Every day, she often cycled to town to receive clothes from tailor shops, then brought them home to sew. Despite her disability, she had skillful hands and worked carefully. The ao dai she sewed by hand always satisfied customers.
She thought her poor life would pass peacefully, but unexpectedly, not long after her mother - Mrs. Ma Thi Bup passed away, the pain had not yet ended when 1 month later (July 2019), her son Dat got a serious illness.
Seeing Dat having difficulty walking, with his mouth and eyes distorted, his relatives helped his sister take him to the district hospital, the provincial hospital and to Hanoi. At Viet Duc Hospital, the doctor concluded that he had a brain tumor in a dangerous location and surgery would be life-threatening. Dat was taken to Hanoi for surgery twice but had to return both times. From a healthy, handsome child, the terrible disease left Dat bedridden, with his limbs cramped and his left eye gradually becoming blurred.

Every time she talks about her child, she often raises her hands and mumbles. |
Knowing that her child had a brain tumor, Ms. Chin was stunned, “thinking less wisely, thinking more foolishly”. Although she did not say it, everyone could guess the heart of a disabled mother who loved her child. Every time she took care of, cleaned, and fed her child, she cried, tears rolling down her cheeks, bitter with pain.
When someone asked about her child, she would often raise her hands to cover her head, mumble something, and point to her child lying on the bed. Then she would shake her head and gesture with her hands to talk about her child, looking very pitiful.
During the days when her child was sick, she still had to ride her bike to town to get sewing supplies. Whenever she left home, she asked her siblings to come and look after her child while she went. Sitting on the bed, she massaged her child's hands and feet while sewing for customers. When her child was in too much pain, she would put the items aside to comfort her.
Ms. Chin's brother shared: "It's a pity. I myself am disabled. I thought it was a blessing to have a child and raise him as a support. Who would have thought that he would fall seriously ill, and my deaf and mute mother now has to raise a child with a brain tumor."
