(Baonghean.vn) - Mr. Nguyen Van Thang - Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Transport, Permanent Vice Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee said that it is necessary to strictly handle violators to realize the theme "Respecting the law to build a culture of safe traffic".

On the morning of February 9, the National Traffic Safety Committee held a national online conference to review traffic safety work in 2022 and outline tasks for 2023. The conference was chaired by Comrade Nguyen Van Thang - Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Transport, Permanent Vice Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee.

Attending the conference at Nghe An bridge were representatives of the Traffic Safety Committee, along with provincial departments, branches and sectors.

Nationwide, there were 11,457 traffic accidents.

According to the assessment at the conference, in 2022, there were 11,457 traffic accidents nationwide, killing 6,397 people and injuring 7,804 people. Compared to 2021, the number of traffic accidents decreased by 38 cases, increased by 598 deaths, and decreased by 214 injuries.

Also in 2022, the Traffic Police force handled 2,865,684 cases of traffic safety violations on roads, railways and inland waterways, fined more than VND 4,124 billion, revoked 388,141 driving licenses and professional certificates, and detained 614,520 vehicles of all kinds.

In addition, from December 15, 2021 to December 14, 2022, inspection teams also organized inspections, controls, ensured traffic safety, and inspected cargo and passenger transport activities on inland waterways. Of which, 84,925 inspections were conducted; 53,834 violations were fined, with a fine of over VND 291.3 billion; 365 cars were detained; 71 wharves and 135 inland waterway vehicles were suspended; 1,398 car driving tests and 1,214 motorcycle driving tests were supervised.

In addition, through the journey monitoring device, the whole country has had over 18.6 million speeding violations, the average speed violation rate per 1,000km is 0.77 times/1,000km. The Department of Transport of the provinces has also revoked the badges of 12,790 vehicles; and disciplined and reminded 27,241 vehicles.

In Nghe An, in 2022, there were 159 traffic accidents, killing 110 people and injuring 101 people, compared to the same period in 2021, there was a decrease of 43 cases, 14 deaths and 49 injuries. Of which, there were 152 road traffic accidents and 7 railway traffic accidents. According to the assessment, the main cause of the accidents was due to the vehicle driver not controlling the speed, not driving in the correct lane, avoiding overtaking in violation of regulations...

Strengthening solutions to reduce traffic accidents

At the conference, ministries, departments, branches and localities reported on the work of ensuring traffic safety and proposed solutions for ensuring traffic safety in the coming time. Many delegates said that it is necessary to apply strict sanctions, especially for those who use vehicles after drinking alcohol, beer or drugs. Improve the quality of infrastructure to reduce traffic congestion, and at the same time reasonably divide traffic on major roads and intersections where traffic congestion often occurs. Improve communication and propaganda for all subjects, especially students.

In particular, it is necessary to strengthen the application of science and technology in ensuring traffic safety, first of all focusing on the application of information technology and data science in transport management, traffic control, and traffic safety propaganda. Monitor, detect and handle violations of traffic safety, such as installing cameras for fines, surveillance cameras on national highways, provincial roads, etc.

Speaking at the conference, Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang emphasized that in order to reduce traffic accidents on all three criteria, ministries, branches and localities need to continue to resolutely implement a number of key tasks in the Traffic Safety Year 2023 with the theme "Respecting the law to build atraffic culture"Safety". Strictly handle violators, especially those who have used alcohol, beer, or drugs and still participate in traffic.

Strengthen dissemination and implementation of tasks to each cadre, civil servant, public employee and worker; strictly comply with traffic safety laws, gradually build a safe traffic culture; attach responsibility of individual leaders to the results of performing tasks to ensure traffic safety within the scope of functions, tasks and authority of agencies and units performing public duties.

Focus on handling black spots, potential traffic accident spots, illegally opened paths across railways, regulating traffic at key locations on waterways... to ensure safety conditions for the transport infrastructure network from central to local levels.

In addition, it is necessary to improve the capacity of rescue, treatment of victims and overcoming the consequences of traffic accidents, ensuring the ability to access the scene and treat the majority of injuries for traffic accident victims. Urgently build a digital traffic accident information reporting application to promptly grasp information to handle and overcome the consequences of traffic accidents./.
