The first outbreak of African swine fever appeared in Yen Thanh area
(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of May 28, Yen Thanh district recorded the first outbreak of African swine fever in the district. The outbreak occurred in Hamlet 7, Tho Thanh commune, bordering Dien Chau district.

Accordingly, on May 27, some pigs of Mr. Nguyen Huu Sang's family in Hamlet 7, Tho Thanh Commune fell ill, showing symptoms of African swine fever. The district's Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station took samples for testing.
By early afternoon this May 28, the Veterinary Department of Region III had the results of the above-mentioned sick pig sample testing positive for African swine fever.

In Mr. Sang's family's barn, there are 21 pigs, weighing from 75 - 85 kg, of which 2 are sick.
Mr. Sang said that his family bought this herd of pigs more than 3 months ago. His wife and he work in rice milling, and Mr. Sang often goes to buy and sell rice in Yen Thanh and Dien Chau, which could have brought the disease virus from other places to spread to his family's pigs.

Yen Thanh is located between 5 communes with African swine fever, so the risk of an epidemic is very high. Previously, Yen Thanh district proactively purchased 80 tons of lime powder to supply 2 tons to each commune and town, to serve the work of epidemic prevention and control. The district also provided 500 liters of chemicals for the communes to spray disinfectants, when there was no epidemic in the area.This afternoon, the District People's Committee will announce African swine fever in Tho Thanh commune.
