2 options to upgrade National Highway 1A running through Vinh city

(Baonghean.vn) - In order to reduce traffic congestion and improve the urban area of ​​National Highway 1A running through Vinh city, specifically Mai Hac De, Le Loi and Quang Trung streets, Vinh city People's Committee and Road Management Area II have conducted a survey on plans to renovate and upgrade these streets.

Accordingly, the paragraphNational Highway 1A through Vinh CityThe project is renovated and upgraded with a route from Km459+930 – Km463 +570, length 3.64 km, starting from Quan Bau intersection to the end point at Vinh market intersection. The project includes 3 streets: Mai Hac De 1.132 km, Le Loi 1.161 km and Quang Trung 1.159 km.

For repairs, upgrades, related parties andVinh City People's Committeesurveyed and established project documents.

Of which, Mai Hac De Street and Le Loi Street currently have a roadbed width of 45 m (road surface width in both directions is 18 m, median strip is 1.5 m wide, sidewalks on both sides are 25.5 m wide).

Quang Trung Street has a roadbed width of 56 m (road surface width 18 m, median strip 1.5 m wide, sidewalks on both sides 36.5 m wide). After more than 10 years of exploitation and investment in repair, the asphalt concrete road surface has shown local damage, the road surface is cracked and the asphalt concrete is peeling off.

Therefore, Road Management Area II and Vinh City People's Committee proposed 2 options, specifically as follows:

Option 1,Expand the non-motorized lane into a 4m wide mixed lane on each side, ensuring a cross-sectional scale of 4 motor vehicle lanes and 2 mixed vehicle lanes, reorganize traffic intersections, and at the same time reinforce the entire road surface with asphalt concrete.

Specifically,Mai Hac De Streetand Le Loi street keeps the existing roadbed width of 45 m, trims and widens to ensure the road surface width of 18 m.m and expanded by 8 m (each side expanded by 4 m); median strip expanded from 1.5 to 2 m wide; sidewalk narrowed to 21 m (each side 10.5 m wide).

For Quang Trung Street, the existing roadbed width of 56 m will be maintained, the road surface will be widened to ensure the current surface width of 28 m and expanded by 8 m; the median strip will be widened from 1.5 m to 2 m; the sidewalk will be widened to 32 m (16 m on each side). The budget for the roadbed, road surface, curb, and curb items is estimated at about 57.54 billion VND from the road economic activity budget.

Option 2,According to the proposal of Vinh City People's Committee: Expand the road surface by 2 more lanes for motor vehicles, 3.5 m wide on each side, ensuring the cross-section scale includes 8 lanes for motor vehicles, 2 lanes for non-motor vehicles, reorganize traffic at intersections, and at the same time reinforce the entire road surface with asphalt concrete, ensuring compliance with the Planning approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 52/QD-TTg dated January 14, 2015.

Accordingly, for Mai Hac De and Le Loi streets, the existing roadbed width of 45 m will be maintained, the current road surface width will be expanded to 28 m and an additional 5.5 m will be expanded (each side will be expanded by 2.75 m); the median strip will be expanded from 1.5 m to 2.5 m; the sidewalk will be 9 m wide.

For Quang Trung Street: Maintain the existing roadbed width of 56 m, expand the road surface to ensure the current surface width of 28 m and expand by 5.5 m (each side expands by 2.75 m); median strip 1.25 m: sidewalk width 20 m (each side 10 m).

Implementation budget: For the items of roadbed, road surface, curb, and curb, the budget is about 104.7 billion VND from the budget for road economic activities. For the items of upgrading and renovating sidewalks, relocating the power system, replanting trees, burying underground, and longitudinal ditch systems, the budget is about 345 billion VND from the Vinh city budget.

In the document sent to the Road Management Department, the representative of Road Management Area II said: The reason why the Management Area agreed with the Vinh City People's Committee to propose the Road Department the above 2 options is based on the current conditions and the actual survey of the sidewalk width of the sections which are still quite wide (12.75 m for Mai Hac De Street, Le Loi Street and 18.25 m for Quang Trung Street) while the road surface is only arranged with 4 lanes for motor vehicles and 2 lanes for rudimentary vehicles, so it cannot meet the traffic volume during rush hours. This is a North-South national highway, running through the center of Vinh city, with a very large traffic volume, diverse types of vehicles, from bicycles, motorbikes and especially cars, so it often causes traffic jams during rush hours, from 6-8 am, from 11 am to 2 pm and 4-6 pm every day.
