9X from Vinh won the 'golden ticket' at the program Shark Tank Vietnam

Phan Anh Vu was born in 1995 in a farming family in Hung Chinh commune, Vinh city. Despite his difficult family circumstances, Vu still excelled in his studies and was given the opportunity by his family to attend Vinh University High School for the Gifted. Although it was a specialized school of the Ministry, a decade ago, blackboards and white chalk were still dominant; only a few periods did students learn using projectors.

“Lessons taught using projectors are rare and always make me feel excited. At that time, I always thought: “What if I used a projector to watch movies?”, “Why is it so cumbersome and full of wires…”. However, those were just personal questions, I did not dare to think about owning a projector or inventing one,” Vu said.

After graduating from high school, although he always thought about the projector, still dreamed that one day Vu would create a compact, multi-purpose projector: slide show, movie watch... and cheap price so that everyone could own it, but at that time, following family orientation and social trends, Vu still chose to take the entrance exam to Foreign Trade University.

“After graduating, I did all kinds of jobs to make a living and stay in the capital. From selling phones to selling wireless headphones… but my mind kept thinking about the multi-purpose projector. And during my university studies or when I graduated and started working, I spent time learning and researching about it,” Phan Anh Vu shared.

Before becoming the owner of the Beecube projector brand today, from 2019 to 2021, Vu paid expensive "tuition" for experiments, for learning about the terms and components that make up the product.

By mid-2020, when he found the first factory as a partner, Vu launched the first projector product. However, the factory prototype could not be used in Vietnam because the application was incompatible, did not have Vietnamese, could not connect to wifi...

Therefore, Vu had to find more technicians, redo the software, and "Vietnamize" each word before being able to sell it to the Vietnamese market.

“Until now, I still remember the feeling of excitement and extreme joy when I received my first order. That day was the end of 2020, at this time the product had just been researched and not yet widely sold, despite the cold weather, I drove my motorbike to deliver the goods and instruct customers on how to use it. Even though the order only earned a profit of 1 million VND. And throughout 2021, the whole brand only sold that one product, but still had high revenue.”

While producing and researching, thanks to customers' trust and support, Vu expanded the product segment to many lines, gradually optimizing the operating system and hardware, helping projector products become smarter.

Every entrepreneur should do it with their own enthusiasm and passion. Do everything with the kindest heart and perseverance. Always learn new things and learn from everyone around you, every piece of advice has a valuable lesson.

At Shark Tank Vietnam season 6, Beecube was also the first startup of the year that forced Shark Minh Beta to withdraw his "golden ticket" to hunt. Although, according to the sharks' assessment, projectors are not a new product and there are many similar products competing on the market.

But it was these "differences" that helped the CEO of the Beecube projector brand win the "golden ticket" from shark Minh Beta and made the other sharks regret.

Shark Minh Beta compared: "I see projectors very similar to the mindset of startup people, from a small dot can project a beautiful dream. Likewise, a founder is just an idea and then projects a whole business, a dream of his life. I don't just make projectors, I can use this mindset and way of doing things to make many other products. I want to use the quintessence, intelligence of Vietnamese people and the way we build brands, control costs but still create good products."

Responding to the expectations and trust of "shark" Minh Beta, Phan Anh Vu confidently affirmed that he could recover his capital after 3-4 years and committed that in 2024, revenue would be one and a half times higher than in 2023 and try to maintain this growth momentum in the coming years.

“Beecube’s strategy is to continue franchising and opening more stores nationwide so that customers can easily experience the products. Continue to research and develop new products, always renew the brand to avoid boredom and lag in technology. In particular, pay attention to after-sales service and customer care. Build Beecube into a national computer brand for Vietnamese people, aiming for export to the Southeast Asian market,” Vu shared.

“For Vu, a good product does not necessarily make a good brand. A good brand also needs kindness in sales culture and for customers.”
