At around 9pm that day, the bus stopped at Tuan Phuong restaurant in Hamlet 4, Xuan Hung Commune, Xuan Loc District (Dong Nai). The man took the initiative to sit next to Mr. Nhi at the dining table and chatted happily, then offered him a can of bird's nest drink, but Mr. Nhi refused. When the bus continued its journey, the man continued to persuade Mr. Nhi to drink the can of bird's nest drink.

From the victim's report, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Huu Son - Chief of Tuy Hoa City Police directed a criminal investigation team to investigate, and proactively provided information about the incident to CAND Newspaper to warn transport businesses and passengers to be vigilant against robbers on inter-provincial buses using anesthesia, and asked people to urgently report to the police when they discover criminal acts or suspicious subjects.
A month later, when Mr. Pham Van Nhi identified the suspect from the images collected by criminal investigators at Mien Dong Bus Station and the subject's portrait in the news on CAND online, a working group of Tuy Hoa City Police went to Can Tho City to coordinate with colleagues at Cai Rang District Police to investigate suspect Nguyen Hoa (born in 1961, residing at 10/11A Le Hong Phong, Binh Thuy Ward, Binh Thuy District, Can Tho City).
As a former "professional" member of a group of robbers using anesthesia, operating professionally on passenger buses from Ho Chi Minh City to the southwestern provinces, Nguyen Hoa was evasive in his denial.
After many days of persistent struggle combined with collected documentary evidence, Nguyen Hoa has now confessed to robbing Mr. Pham Van Nhi by putting anesthetic drugs in a can of bird's nest drink.
It is known that Nguyen Hoa was sentenced to 9 years in prison by the People's Court of Bien Hoa City (Dong Nai) for the crime of "Robbery". After finishing his prison term in 2016, Hoa returned to his hometown but did not reform, but continued to collude with his accomplices to follow inter-provincial passenger buses to rob property by using anesthesia. Before "taking down" Mr. Nhi on the Ho Chi Minh City - Phu Yen passenger bus, Hoa put anesthetic in a bird's nest drink can to rob a 5-tael 18K gold necklace from a woman in Tan An Tay commune, Ngoc Hien district (Ca Mau) on the Nam Can - Ben Tre passenger bus on September 25, 2020, but was discovered, arrested and taken to Cai Rang District Police (Can Tho) by his companions.
On March 5, the Tuy Hoa City Police Department issued a decision to prosecute Nguyen Hoa for the crime of "Robbery" and is continuing to investigate and handle the case according to the law.
