Arrested 'backpacker' specializing in robbing foreigners
Tu drove a motorbike and followed foreign tourists who rented bicycles to go sightseeing. When they reached a deserted place, the "backpacker" drove his motorbike close and robbed them.
On August 4, Hoa Lu District Police (Ninh Binh Province) said they were completing procedures to prosecute a case and prosecute a suspect for robbing a foreigner at the Tam Coc - Bich Dong Tourist Area located in this district.

According to the investigation documents of Hoa Lu District Police, Le Van Tu often traveled "backpacking" to many places in the North. When he arrived at Tam Coc - Bich Dong Tourist Area (Hoa Lu District, Ninh Binh Province), Tu noticed that many foreigners came to visit and rent bicycles to go sightseeing. Through research, Tu discovered that these foreign visitors were very careless when leaving their backpacks and bags in the bicycle baskets and not keeping them carefully. Due to lack of money, Tu had the idea of robbing these people.
In recent times, Le Van Tu often followed foreign tourists who rented bicycles to go sightseeing on his motorbike. When they arrived at deserted places, this "backpacker" drove his motorbike close and then committed acts of robbery.
Tu also confessed to having successfully carried out two robberies. The stolen assets were foreign currency and cameras, which Tu sold to get money to spend and buy gold jewelry.
Hoa Lu District Police said they have recovered evidence of this case including 2 cameras worth 60 million VND, 12 million VND, 1 gold ring and some other evidence.
