Temporarily detain 4 defendants, former commune officials, for selling land illegally in Yen Thanh district
(Baonghean.vn) - On August 18, the Investigation Police Agency of Yen Thanh District Police prosecuted and temporarily detained 4 defendants, former leaders and officials working in My Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh District, to investigate the crime of "Abuse of power in the performance of official duties".
The defendants include: Mr. Nguyen Van Nam (born in 1959), former Party Secretary of My Thanh Commune; Mr. Nguyen Van Dinh (born in 1956), former Chairman of My Thanh Commune People's Committee; Mr. Nguyen Van Thach (born in 1960), former chief accountant and Mr. Nguyen Vinh Chinh, former commune cadastral officer (all 4 people had retired at the time of prosecution).

According to investigation documents, from 2004 to 2015, Mr. Nguyen Van Nam, as Secretary of the Party Committee of My Thanh commune, Mr. Nguyen Van Dinh, as Chairman of the People's Committee of the commune, Mr. Nguyen Van Thach, as chief accountant, and Mr. Nguyen Vinh Chinh, as a cadastral officer of the commune, sold 56 plots of land with a total area of about 4,317 square meters of various types of land in the commune.

In particular, in his role as Party Secretary of the commune, Mr. Nguyen Van Nam was determined to have directed Mr. Nguyen Van Dinh and other officials to sell land in the commune, illegally profiting more than 1.2 billion VND, causing losses to the state of more than 111 million VND, causing serious consequences that caused the local land fund to be depleted and made the provisions of the law on land not be strictly and uniformly enforced.

According to the defendants' confessions in the case, the money from selling land was put into the commune's budget and accounted for as voluntary contributions from the people to the treasury, with the aim of withdrawing 100% of this money for the commune to use in building new rural infrastructure for the locality. It is known that My Thanh is a key commune in the new rural construction of Yen Thanh district, reaching the new rural finish line in 2018.
Currently, the Yen Thanh District Police Department is continuing to strengthen the investigation file on the case.
