'Treasure' of the old soldier of Vinh village
(Baonghean.vn) - Although he is 99 years old this year, Mr. Nguyen Vieng is still very clear-minded. He was one of the young men from Vinh village (Vinh Tuy, Yen Thanh, Nghe An) who raised the red flag with a yellow star and led the demonstration to seize power in Yen Thanh district on September 25, 1945.

Mr. Nguyen Vieng told about the time he met Uncle Ho at the National Emulation Congress. |
I met him at the Ngo Tri family's ancestral worship ceremony in Vinh Tuy village on the occasion of the Canh Ty Spring 2020. This year he is 99 years old, if counting his grandmother's age, he is a centenarian, the patriarch of the family and the village.
His name was Nguyen Vieng, one of the young men from Vinh village who raised the red flag with a yellow star and led the demonstration to seize power in Yen Thanh district on September 25, 1945. When the nationwide resistance war broke out, he participated in the scorched earth resistance in Vinh. At the end of 1947, Nghe An established the 57th main force regiment. He joined the National Guard, was assigned to the 54th Company, 418th Battalion. From then on, his life was associated with the battles and feats of the famous 57th Regiment in the fiery battlefields of Laos and Binh Tri Thien.
In 1950, he and the Regiment marched to Thanh Hoa to attend the founding ceremony of Division 304. From then on, he participated in major campaigns in the Northern Delta such as the Ha - Nam - Ninh - Hoa Binh campaign. In each major battle, he always showed his bravery and courage, was not afraid of sacrifice and hardship, and achieved many achievements that were commended by his superiors.

In particular, during the tank campaign on Route 6 in Hoa Binh, following the example of Hero Cu Chinh Lan, he used explosives to destroy an enemy tank. After that battle, he was elected as an Emulation Fighter from the company level to the whole army level and was honored to be sent to attend the 1st Patriotic Emulation Congress held in a forest in Khuoi Lam hamlet, Hop Thanh commune, Dinh Hoa district, Thai Nguyen province. At this congress, he was honored to meet Uncle Ho, General Vo Nguyen Giap, was awarded the National Patriotic Emulation Fighter badge, Uncle Ho badge by comrade Truong Chinh, and had a photo taken with Uncle Ho and Heroes La Van Cau, Nguyen Thi Chien, Tran Dai Nghia, and Hoang Hanh.
In 1972, from the Tay Ninh battlefield in the Southeast, he was sent to the North for treatment and then retired in Vinh Thanh commune (Yen Thanh). Returning to his hometown to live a simple life with his fellow villagers, he plowed and hoed to raise several grown children, and actively participated in veteran work in the village and commune.
Mr. Nguyen Vieng was honored to be awarded the 70-year Party badge, many First, Second, and Third Class Military Exploit Medals, and 4 Resistance Medals against France and America.

The Uncle Ho badge and the Emulation Fighter badge are kept by Mr. Nguyen Vieng until today. |
When we visited him, we saw that he was still lucid and simple in his old National Guard uniform. He solemnly hung a photo taken with Uncle Ho and the emulation soldiers in the Viet Bac forest and still kept the two badges that were given to him that day as treasures of his military career.
