2-year-old boy from poor family with congenital disease miraculously 'resurrected'
(Baonghean.vn) - Recently, a 2-year-old boy from a poor family in a remote area of Tuong Duong district, suffering from a congenital inguinal hernia and with no chance of treatment, received free surgery from Vinh International Hospital in collaboration with the Nghe An Province Children's Support Fund.
On January 3, 2020, Vinh International Hospital Fanpage received a photo of a 2-year-old boy in pain due to an unusually large bulge in his groin. According to a reader, baby H was born in 2018 in Xop Kha village, Yen Hoa commune, Tuong Duong district, a remote mountainous area with no phone signal, making it very difficult to communicate and access medical services.
At birth, Baby H had abnormal signs in the groin area. Every time the baby cried or moved vigorously, the bulge in the groin area appeared, but when he slept or rested, the bulge disappeared, so the family did not pay attention. Because the family was poor, they could not afford to take the baby to the doctor.

Through the images sent to the hospital, the doctors determined that the bulge in the groin area was very large and surgery was the only way to treat the disease. In order to share the difficulties with the child's family and create an opportunity for the child to receive timely treatment, Vinh International Hospital and the Nghe An Province Children's Fund sponsored all the costs and immediately contacted the family to bring the child in for treatment.
After more than 6 hours of travel, baby H arrived at the hospital and was examined by doctors, who determined that he had a congenital inguinal hernia, with the intestines and greater omentum running down to the scrotum, creating a large bulge in the groin. The surgery was successful after 45 minutes. With modern surgical techniques, the incision is small (about 2 - 3cm in the groin area), and the patient has little pain after surgery.
BSCKI Nguyen Van Tuan - Department of Surgery, Vinh International Hospital, directly treated the child's illness and said:“Inguinal hernia in children is a congenital disease caused by the presence of the peritoneal canal. This disease is more common in premature infants, and can manifest immediately after birth, or after a few months or years. Inguinal hernia in children should be operated on after being detected, otherwise this hernia will grow larger as the child begins to move more and can cause many dangerous complications such as strangulated hernia, intestinal obstruction, and necrosis of the strangulated intestine if left too late. If left for a long time, the hernia will affect mental development. Fortunately, for baby H, surgery was performed in time, limiting the risks of this disease.”
After 4 days of treatment, baby H was discharged from the hospital to return to his village. His health has completely recovered, and the pain is gone. His family is extremely happy and reassured with the dedication and devotion of the hospital's doctors and nurses who treated and cared for him.
