Nghe An Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital provides emergency care to a child with severe injuries from a dog bite.
(Baonghean.vn) - On July 20, Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital received emergency treatment for patient TNTV (5 years old, residing in Nghia Dan district) who was bitten by a dog in the face, causing very severe injuries.
According to the patient's family: At around 5:00 p.m. on July 20, 2023, TNTV was sitting in front of his house when a dog suddenly ran up and bit him in the face and head. Immediately afterwards, the family took him to the District Medical Center for first aid and then transferred him to Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital.

The patient was admitted to the hospital with a large bite mark on his forehead and around his left eye, about 8x6 cm (about half an adult's palm). The child's left eyebrow was completely gone, along with a wound about 10 cm long on his head.
"Although the family was able to pick up a piece of skin that had been bitten by the dog in the hope of being able to stitch it back up, the time from when the child was bitten to when he was admitted to the hospital was quite long (3 hours), not to mention the skin was broken and dirty, so if grafted, there would be a risk of necrosis. Faced with a large defect in the face, we decided to peel off the skin from the head and forehead and transfer the flap in place" - Doctor Nguyen Quang Ha (Department of Dentistry, Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital) - surgeon shared.

The surgery lasted 4 hours, starting from 10pm on July 20th until 2am on July 21st. Doctors from the Department of Dentistry and the Department of Anesthesia and Resuscitation cut the child's hair, washed the wound, cleaned, shaped and used 9 threads to suture the wound.
After surgery, TNTV’s eyes will not be pulled, so their function will not be affected much. At the same time, TNTV’s family has been advised by the doctor to get vaccinated against rabies and tetanus./.
