(Baonghean.vn) - On the occasion of Christmas 2018, on the afternoon of December 23, the provincial Social Insurance organized a ceremony to present voluntary social insurance books and some practical gifts to parishioners in hamlet 9, Hung Chau commune, Hung Nguyen district.

This is a Catholic hamlet, a large number of people in the hamlet are self-employed, their economic and social life still faces certain limitations; they do not participate in voluntary social insurance, health insurance... therefore, when they are sick, they face many difficulties.

At the ceremony, social insurance officers provided useful information about voluntary social insurance, family health insurance, and unemployment insurance, clearly stating the contribution levels, payment periods, state support, and benefits that people can enjoy. In particular, 56 people who were eligible to participate in voluntary social insurance received voluntary social insurance books with a validity of 6 months; along with that, social insurance officers explained and guided how to continue paying with flexible payment methods.

Ms. Le Thi Dung - Deputy Director of the Provincial Social Insurance affirmed that the insurance policies clearly demonstrate humanity and superiority when helping freelance workers to have a "pension book" and a health insurance card - a practical "lifesaver" when unfortunately encountering risks, illnesses and more peace of mind when getting old. The Provincial Social Insurance's giving away voluntary social insurance books aims to create initial convenience for people in the long-term participation process; at the same time, it also helps people better understand the benefits and value of social insurance books, thereby spreading the message to the community.

Also on this occasion, the provincial Social Insurance presented 40 gifts to 40 households in difficult circumstances in the hamlet. It is known that this is an annual activity that has been carried out for many years; the value of the social insurance books and gifts is taken from the salary contribution fund of the staff and employees in the unit./.

Things to know about voluntary social insurance

1. Who should buy voluntary social insurance?

According to Clause 4, Article 2 of the Social Insurance Law 2014, people aged 15 years or older who are not subject to compulsory social insurance can purchase voluntary social insurance.

Specifically, those who should buy voluntary social insurance are freelancers, housewives, part-time workers... and any other employees who do not sign a labor contract with any agency/unit.

2. What are the voluntary social insurance regimes?

Voluntary social insurance includes only two regimes: Retirement and death.

That is, if voluntary social insurance is paid, participants may receive a pension; at the same time, funeral allowance and death allowance according to regulations...

3. What is the voluntary social insurance contribution level?

Article 87 of the 2014 Law on Social Insurance stipulates that the voluntary social insurance contribution rate = 22% of monthly income chosen by the employee.

The lowest monthly income used as the basis for voluntary social insurance payment is equal to the poverty line for rural areas (currently 700,000 VND/month) and the highest is 20 times the basic salary (currently 27.8 million VND).

4. State support

From January 2018, voluntary social insurance participants will receive State support for contributions at a percentage (%) of the monthly social insurance contribution according to the poverty line in rural areas:

a) 30% for voluntary social insurance participants from poor households;

b) Equal to 25% for voluntary social insurance participants from near-poor households;

c) Equal to 10% for other subjects.
