Ministry of Education and Training requests report on female student's suicide at Vinh University

The Ministry of Education and Training directed and requested units to report on the case of a female student in Nghe An who committed suicide, suspected to be due to school violence.

Talk toVietNamNet,On April 18, Mr. Tran Van Dat, Acting Director of the Department of Political Education and Student Affairs (Ministry of Education and Training), said that the Ministry has given initial instructions regarding the case of a female student at Vinh University High School for the Gifted (Nghe An) who committed suicide, suspected to be due to school violence.

“After receiving the information, we immediately contacted the Nghe An Department of Education and Training, Vinh University and Vinh University High School for the Gifted to request an early investigation and clarification of the incident.”

In addition, the Department also requested relevant units to take measures to stabilize students' mental health and avoid negative developments and impacts on their psychology.

Mr. Dat said that according to the school's report, NTYN was not the victim of violence in the clip that was spread online around the same time.

Mr. Dat said that Vinh University as well as Vinh University High School for the Gifted have reported information about the 10th grade female student committing suicide.

Specifically, on the evening of April 15, Vinh University received information that NTYN - a student of class 10A15, Vinh University High School for the Gifted, passed away at her home in Trung Do ward, Vinh city.

Then, on April 16, information spread on social networks that a 10th grade female student at Vinh University High School for the Gifted committed suicide due to being beaten, abused and psychologically overwhelmed, along with a clip of students fighting, causing a stir in public opinion.

Immediately after receiving the above information, Vinh University worked with the Board of Directors of the High School for the Gifted, the assistant student manager, the homeroom teacher and the representative of the students of class 10A15 to hear the report of the incident. Based on initial information, the school reported that the incident of student NTYN - a student of class 10A15, Vinh University High School for the Gifted, who died at her home in Trung Do Ward, Vinh City, was true.

However, regarding the clip of students fighting that spread on social media at the same time, the homeroom teacher and student representatives of class 10A15 confirmed that the female student beaten in the clip was not NTYN. The participants in the beating were also not students of Vinh University High School for the Gifted.

Mr. Dat said that currently, Vinh University and Vinh University High School for the Gifted are coordinating with relevant authorities and relevant parties (students' families, homeroom teachers, students in the class...) to clarify the cause of the incident.
